Yes, I've read that article, but I think I must've gone selectively blind, because all I could find was:

I'm glad that the original cover is in the docu, but I still wonder why they couldn't use it for the DVD? Basically, I just think it's a classic in terms of movie poster design, and the tattoos are a big part of that. They even look pretty "Austin Powers", for that matter (or rather, vice-versa).

But thanks anyway!

Come to think of it, is anybody aware of any discussions or articles about whether to use the original poster artwork for dvd covers (on this forum or elsewhere)? I'm surprised that I haven't encountered any up to now.

I really love this films "cocktail" score, brings back some good memories.
I like the film as it is anyway, a bit of a time capsule of how the older crowd took to the new freedoms of the sex revolution and drug revolution, but mainly as an odd-ball psychedelic 007 parody.

It's not just that there are tattoos, it's that the tattoos spell out "007", which is a trademark that Eon Productions (the people who made all of the real Bond movies) protect vigorously. If I recall, the package doesn't say "007" anywhere on it, and only one small reference to "James Bond" in the synopsis.

Hmmm. I've heard about all the legal haggling, which was apparently why the movie hadn't been released in the US before. But on the other hand, MGM is behind the Bond DVDs as well... Also, the 007 number is mentioned in the plot, and then you've got the 1954 TV-movie for the Bond-collectors... Would be interesting, though, if that really is the reason.

I actually saw this in a theater in a re-release around 1973. I was in 3rd grade and could not follow. All I remembered was the score and the exciting ending. Seeing it again almost 30 years later, I can see why I was confused. Also the big special effect near the end is now cheesy. I was so impressionable then. The film hasn't aged well but IS a must-buy for a Bond fanatic like me. My wife was all zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

The soundtrack LP is considered by many audiophiles to be the best recording ever made, period.

I'm interested in whether any of that is apparent in the audio of the film itself.

>>I always thought that Our Man Flint, which came out a year earlier, did the spy-spoof bit better and is more steeped in that groovy '60s feel--plus it has a swinging score by Jerry Goldsmith.

I find this movie to be unwatchable, yet I'm still going to buy it just for the last half hour of it and the 1954 TV version.

Has anyone watched the 1954 version yet? I was hoping it would be the "complete" version, but it seems to be cut off at the end. Spy Guise's VHS version said:

Now, Spy Guise and Cara Entertainment offer this special collector's edition – with missing footage restored for the first time in decades!
I don't think this missing footage made it to this DVD. Lorre reaches for a razor blade in his hat at the end and then it abruptly ends. Has anyone seen the Spy Guise version?
