Very nice collection, I was fortunate enough to pick them up from AB Sound (ca) for around ~18 and change each, people who are still looking might want to check there. Highly recommended.
Hmmm, I think I might order Mickey Mouse from Amazon.com. Do you think it's worth $25.00 though?
It was worth $125 to me, but don't tell Disney. BTW, overall, the quality of the transfers on the Mickey Mouse set were even better than those on the Silly Symphonies set. Even the titles such as "Brave Little Tailor", "The Worm Turns", and "Lonesome Ghosts" that were previously released as supplements to other DVDs appear to have gotten brand new transfers here. All of the titles except for "Mickey's Trailer" are very slightly windowboxed which you will notice if you have less than 3% overscan per side for 4:3 presentations.
Regards,
...$28.00 (With shipping) Seems pretty steep.
but near the end while the grasshopper is wading through the snow storm, there's a sort-of "blur" that occurs
I counted 3 "blurs" on Grasshopper and the Ant. At first I thought it was my crappy player in the bedroom. I'll have to check it out on my other player and see if the "blurs" are as noticable on it. I also thought I noticed this on another symphony, although the title escapes me at the moment. Cheers.
I have no explanation for how Disney could market something as uncensored and then show you a demonstration of exactly how it was censored, but there you have it.
Reminds me a bit of the way Fantasia was marketed.
When I read Ron's review, I wondered the same thing. It is most definately censored. It's there's to do with as they choose, but I'd rather they be upfront about it.
But, they did include the entire censored routine in Maltin's review, so at least you can see the original - if not how it was originally intended.
