SO happy to finally be getting Theatre of Blood! Yeah!!
TT doesn't do the work -- they release what is handed to them by the studios. Having not seen BRANNIGAN, I agree that TT have made a few questionable choices quality-wise (BOUND FOR GLORY, HEAVEN AND EARTH (although this had to do with an Oliver Stone request, apparently), and one or two others, but by and large, they have been most discriminating and have been releasing gorgeous transfers which, to those of us who so love the movies they offer, are worth their price point. Olive will not give you these films. Kino won't. The studios won't. Take them or leave them, as this is the only way you will get them.Sorry to sound harsh, but after the job TT did on Brannigan, I'll never purchase another one of their $35 BD's again. Basically an upscaled DVD. If your gonna charge that much for a disc, you better do a darn good job on the transfer

For what it's worth, I'm now seeing the images in post #2, which I still wasn't at the time Bob originally made the above post! A very smoldering Rita Hayworth, indeed!Let me know if you see them now. Some see them. Some don't. Pends on browser. I reuploaded them. Thanks, Bob!
I must say I have to wonder about the necessity of a HD blu ray of Zelig. Woody Allen intentionally made the film to look faded, soft looking, scratchy and grainy to simulate old newsreels of the 1920s. Will HD make the film look even more faded, soft looking, scratchy and grainy? If so, I suppose I've answered my own question.
While I understand your position, I don't agree. Part of the joy of properly harvested transfers properly encoded on BD is that they look more like film. In the case of Zelig, it means making "damaged" and "aged" film look more like the theatrical presentation. There would clearly be more detail in an HD harvest than what we currently get on DVD. as well as better contrast and black levels. Now, if you were talking about something originated on DV, like Borat, Bamboozled, Open Water, The Blair Witch Project or 28 Days Later, I would completely agree with you, as the only things BD can offer to those titles are improved compression and lossless audio. If it was originated on film, and photographed by a well-respected DOP (in this case, the "Prince of Darkness", Gordon Willis), it's worth releasing on BD. YMMV.I'm not of the opinion that everything needs to upgraded to hi def. For many films, the "improvements" will be marginal which I suppose for some people is enough to justify an HD release. I just upgrade to films that 1) are particular personal favorites or 2) need an improvement over their present presentation. I realize that that many (especially in a forum such as this) have a quite different viewpoint.
Ditto. Hope TT is onto these.I concur. Now that I have the complete Doinel cycle, 'Day for Night' and other Region 2 releases including 'Vivre Dimanche', I'm now really pining for 'Small Change' and 'The Wild Child' ... wonderful movies, both of them.
Just 3-D for me. The Gang's All Here has already had a top release from Eureka in the UK.
Will, you're gonna go bananas over The Gang's All Here! The transfer is gorgeous!
