I already have the region B locked The Gangs All Here, but I will happily purchase TT's release, as it may have it own bonus features (Nick and Julie's frequently included commentary tracks on TT titles are uniformly charming and very engaging.).

I am waiting until there are six TT titles I want so I can order all at once and I think The Gangs All Here and Zelig get me there.

Sorry to sound harsh, but after the job TT did on Brannigan, I'll never purchase another one of their $35 BD's again. Basically an upscaled DVD. If your gonna charge that much for a disc, you better do a darn good job on the transfer

TT doesn't do the work -- they release what is handed to them by the studios. Having not seen BRANNIGAN, I agree that TT have made a few questionable choices quality-wise (BOUND FOR GLORY, HEAVEN AND EARTH (although this had to do with an Oliver Stone request, apparently), and one or two others, but by and large, they have been most discriminating and have been releasing gorgeous transfers which, to those of us who so love the movies they offer, are worth their price point. Olive will not give you these films. Kino won't. The studios won't. Take them or leave them, as this is the only way you will get them.

If Twilight Time weren't around, I'm pretty sure Kino and Olive would release all of those titles.

There are still missing images in post #2.
Let me know if you see them now. Some see them. Some don't. Pends on browser. I reuploaded them. Thanks, Bob!
For what it's worth, I'm now seeing the images in post #2, which I still wasn't at the time Bob originally made the above post! A very smoldering Rita Hayworth, indeed! :)

CHEERS! :)

I must say I have to wonder about the necessity of a HD blu ray of Zelig. Woody Allen intentionally made the film to look faded, soft looking, scratchy and grainy to simulate old newsreels of the 1920s. Will HD make the film look even more faded, soft looking, scratchy and grainy? If so, I suppose I've answered my own question.

I'm not of the opinion that everything needs to upgraded to hi def. For many films, the "improvements" will be marginal which I suppose for some people is enough to justify an HD release. I just upgrade to films that 1) are particular personal favorites or 2) need an improvement over their present presentation. I realize that that many (especially in a forum such as this) have a quite different viewpoint.
While I understand your position, I don't agree. Part of the joy of properly harvested transfers properly encoded on BD is that they look more like film. In the case of Zelig, it means making "damaged" and "aged" film look more like the theatrical presentation. There would clearly be more detail in an HD harvest than what we currently get on DVD. as well as better contrast and black levels. Now, if you were talking about something originated on DV, like Borat, Bamboozled, Open Water, The Blair Witch Project or 28 Days Later, I would completely agree with you, as the only things BD can offer to those titles are improved compression and lossless audio. If it was originated on film, and photographed by a well-respected DOP (in this case, the "Prince of Darkness", Gordon Willis), it's worth releasing on BD. YMMV.

I concur. Now that I have the complete Doinel cycle, 'Day for Night' and other Region 2 releases including 'Vivre Dimanche', I'm now really pining for 'Small Change' and 'The Wild Child' ... wonderful movies, both of them.

Just 3-D for me. The Gang's All Here has already had a top release from Eureka in the UK.

At one point somebody at Fox thought it would be a good idea to replace their older films with a more modern version of the 20th Century Fox logo. When The Gangs all here was being worked on the right logo was restored but with a faded version. I ran this film from a nitrate print and it was not pink like it has been on all the home video copies in the last 10 or more years. Hopefully the right Logo with good color has been fixed.

Now back in print in riveting 1080p hi-def: Sam Peckinpah’s savagely gritty and lyrically executed thriller about the quest for a costly bounty, starring Warren Oates in one of his best performances.

BRING ME THE HEAD OF ALFREDO GARCIA

Limited Edition BLU-RAY Release

Only 3,000 units available at www.twilighttimemovies.com & www.screenarchives.com

Once they are gone – they are gone!

RELEASE DATE: TUESDAY, AUGUST 16, 2016

“Extraordinary, a true and heartfelt work by a great director who endured despite, or perhaps because of, the demons that haunted him…I can feel Sam Peckinpah’s heart beating and head pounding in every frame.”

– Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

“There are reservoirs of pure poetry in Alfredo Garcia…this magnificently depraved pièce de résistance.” – Nick Schager, Slant Magazine

Reviled on its release, reassessed today as a masterpiece, Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia (1974) is pantheon director Sam Peckinpah’s nihilistic yet poetic tale of Bennie (Warren Oates, iconically great), a wastrel sometime piano player lost in the wilds of Mexico. He and his beautiful, tragic lover (the fragile/strong Isela Vega) stumble across one last, perilous chance at happiness: in order to claim more money than they’ve ever dreamed of, all they have to do is retrieve the head of a wanted man. But the path to their ultimate escape is littered with dangers – some, of course, of the fatal variety. Gorgeously supported by Jerry Fielding’s poignant score, available on this Twilight Time release as an isolated track.

Hollywood maverick Sam Peckinpah wrote this underseen and gorgeously shot Cavalry riff on

Custer’s last stand featuring a Who’s Who of Hollywood favorites, thundering onto hi-def Blu-ray.

THE GLORY GUYS

Limited Edition BLU-RAY Release

Only 3,000 units available at www.twilighttimemovies.com & www.screenarchives.com

Once they are gone – they are gone!

RELEASE DATE: TUESDAY, AUGUST 16, 2016

“An entertaining US Cavalry-Indian conflict, sparked by an opportunist army general who sacrifices dedicated soldiers to his ambition. Brawling fisticuffs, comedy and romantic triangle…until an exciting climax.” – Variety

“The large supporting cast is terrific. Caan is good as a stubborn recruit, and veteran character actor Pickens provides his usual comic relief…Greatly enhanced by the photography of veteran cameraman Howe. The battle sequences are excellent.” – TV Guide

The Glory Guys (1965) is screenwriter Sam Peckinpah’s gloss (adapted from Hoffman Birney’s novel) on the Custer/Little Big Horn story, directed by Arnold Laven. Andrew Duggan stars as the ill-fated general, badly overseeing a cavalry troop peopled by the spectacular likes of Tom Tryon, Harve Presnell, Michael Anderson Jr., Slim Pickens, and a very young James Caan in a standout performance. Also featuring Senta Berger as the requisite love interest; shot by the singular James Wong Howe; and supported by a stunning Riz Ortolani score.

Only 3,000 units available atwww.twilighttimemovies.com & www.screenarchives.com

Once they are gone – they are gone!

RELEASE DATE: TUESDAY, AUGUST 16, 2016

Hardcore contains moments of pure revelation…we realize how rare it is for the movies to show us people who are speaking in real words about real things.”

– Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

“An electrifying movie…Mr. Schrader works with speed and intelligence, paying sharp attention to detail and making the movie as funny as it is quick and frightening.” – Janet Maslin, The New York Times

Writer-director Paul Schrader’s brilliant, horrifying Hardcore (1979) follows the grim pilgrimage of a Calvinist Midwestern businessman (the great George C. Scott) searching for his vanished daughter in the scuzzy subculture of the West Coast porn industry. In his effort to trace the girl, he joins forces with a young hooker (Season Hubley) he hopes will help; their growing emotional relationship is the beating heart of this harrowing film. Shot by Michael Chapman, and with a score by Jack Nitzsche.

RELEASE DATE: TUESDAY, AUGUST 16, 2016

“This superior social issue/crime drama is based on the real-life Franca Viola, a Sicilian teenager who defied the combined wrath of both the Mafia and her community…Damiani’s script changes the names but stays with the facts, turning the grim story into a compelling drama.” – Glenn Erickson, DVDTalk.com

“A dark and tense thriller with plenty of great drama and a fantastic lead performance from the completely enchanting Ornella Muti.”

– Ian Jane, Rock! Shock! Pop!

Director Damiano Damiani’s The Most Beautiful Wife (La Moglie Più Bella, 1970) stars the then 14-year-old beauty, Ornella Muti, as a real-life Sicilian girl who dared to challenge the local Mafia. Instead of acceding to a malignant old custom allowing a young Don to kidnap and rape a prospective bride, she puts her foot down and goes to the police, unleashing the rage of the mobsters, but also the disapproval of her family and neighbors. Highlighted by a score from the great maestro, Ennio Morricone, available on this Twilight Time release as an isolated track.

THEATRE OF BLOOD

Once they are gone – they are gone!

RELEASE DATE: TUESDAY, AUGUST 16, 2016

“The crowning glory of Vincent Price’s career as the screen’s horror-comic bogeyman…partnered wonderfully by the equally versatile Diana Rigg. Superb!”

– Kim Newman, Empire

“Well regarded amongst Price fans and beloved by the late actor himself, Theatre Of Blood offers Price one of those rare ‘perfect’ roles. No one else could have brought the same sense of both mayhem and tragedy to this part.”

– Ian Jane, Rock! Shock! Pop!

Theatre of Blood (1973), directed by Douglas Hickox, offers the one and only Vincent Price in a role both madcap and touching. He plays a Shakespearean actor determined to wreak vengeance on the critics who fail to appreciate his genius, killing them in a series of set-piece murders based on scenes from Shakespeare. Diana Rigg plays Price’s Cordelia-like daughter, and a lineup of British thespian legends incarnate the critics, including Robert Morley, Jack Hawkins, Harry Andrews, Arthur Lowe, Robert Coote, Michael Hordern, Dennis Price, Ian Hendry, and Coral Browne.

LADY IN CEMENT

Limited Edition BLU-RAY Release

Only 3,000 units available atwww.twilighttimemovies.com & www.screenarchives.com

Once they are gone – they are gone!

RELEASE DATE: TUESDAY, AUGUST 16, 2016

“A witty and thoroughly enjoyable attempt to revive the cynical, corpse-laden, bafflingly plotted Chandler thrillers of the ’40s…Sinatra, standing in ably for Bogart as the tough private eye, times his deadpan cracks perfectly, takes his beatings like a man, and batters his way to some sort of solution.”

Time Out New York

This Frank Sinatra double feature gives us twin helpings of the Chairman of the Board starring as hard-boiled Miami detective Tony Rome in a pair of adventures, both directed by Gordon Douglas and based on books by Marvin H. Albert. In Tony Rome (1967), the eponymous cop turned P.I. is on the trail of an heiress’ lost diamond pin; Jill St. John, Sue Lyon, Gena Rowlands, and Richard Conte co-star. Lady in Cement (1968) finds Rome hired to trace a missing woman; co-stars in this go-round include Raquel Welch and Dan Blocker, with Conte making a welcome reappearance.

Will, you're gonna go bananas over The Gang's All Here! The transfer is gorgeous!

And about time, too!!! It was a spectacular laserdisc (when we had nothing else to compare it to). It's first DVD incarnation (in one of the Alice Faye boxes) was disastrous. Fox managed to clean it up fairly well for inclusion in one of the Carmen Miranda boxes.

I cannot WAIT to see how much more improved it may be!

When you see the unrestored trailer and then watch the movie, you'll see how much more improved it is. I've seen a 35mm Technicolor print in a past life, and I can tell you, those bananas look pretty much the same healthy yellow hue.
