B O O G E Y M E N

Be afraid...be VERY afraid!
I had been putting off watching the DVD
screener I had been given a few weeks ago.
This wasn't at the top of my list of movies
to review, as I generally am not a fan of
those "B" type horror movies that have made
so much money over the past 3 decades. However,
I do have an obligation to review product I
am sent, so I decided to give a look at this
DVD being released to stores next week.
BOOGEYMEN is a very hip compilation
of the most intense, thrilling, gross and gory
scenes from the greatest Horror movies of our
time.
Imagine WWF meets the BOOGEYMEN with POP-UP
VIDEOS, and you have an exciting party disc
that will be the highlight of your next
Halloween bash.
Each BOOGEYMEN segment begins with a PROFILE
of that particular BOOGEYMAN. You get all the
vital stats you need to know about the slasher
in question. This is all done in WWF style
with a rock-hard soundtrack. We are then
presented with the scariest video clip from that
movie.
Nothing is edited -- nothing is censored! In
fact, watching the first two sequences from
HELLRAISER and NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET
literally had my heart racing as I was absolutely
grossed-out by the blood and makeup effects.
While watching these sequences, a black bar
appears on the bottom of the screen that gives
you FLIX FACTS about the movie you are
watching. For instance, I found this out while
watching a scene from NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET...
* Craven wrote the film after reading
an article about people dying in their sleep.
* Freddy Kreuger was named after a bully that
Cameron went to school with.
* The film was banned in Finland & censored
in Germany.
* Two gallons of fake blood were used in the movie.
I think you can now summize how this DVD works.
You get loads of the most intense sequences from
films like HALLOWEEN, CHILD'S PLAY, TEXAS CHAINSAW
MASSACRE, SCREAM, I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER
and so much more! You get FLIX FACTS about each
film, almost like MTV's POP-UP VIDEOS.
Inbetween some of the movie sequences, you also
get VITAL STAT CHARTS of some really cool horror
movie polls, such as....
* The top scariest movies of all time
* The top 10 scariest boogeymen of all time
And my favorite...
* Total Body Counts
(Jason Vorhees leads at 191)
There is also a trivia game called NAME THAT
FRAME where you have to guess the movie based
upon a single frame of a movie that is revealed.
I'm telling you -- this is one fun disc!
Did I also mention there are no less than 12
full-length trailers from your favorite horror
movies included?
There is also DVD-ROM programming included
on this DVD as well.
The video looks quite good, although since
this is a compilation, each sequence is based
upon the original source material.
Audio is generally excellent and mostly 2-channel
stereo, although my speakers were punching during
some of the disc sequences.
I must sum up this disc as being quite a
surprise. I did not expect to enjoy it so much,
and I only was given a SAMPLER disc so I didn't
even get to see half the cool stuff you guys will
see on the final product.
I must warn everyone that this disc is not for
the faint of heart. You will find that this is
a VERY INTENSE presentation that essentially throws
you the most horrifying, bloody movie clips of all
time -- and they don't stop. I literally was feeling
a little ill after watching the first few sequences.
But you know what? That is gonna be a party staple
and I can just see crowds of drunk people hollering
at the television and rooting for their favorite
BOOGEYMEN.
For the horror fan, this is a MUST BUY!
It's also available on most web sites for under
$15.
Release Date: October 2, 2001
All I can say is that this is one INCREDIBLY
INTENSE disc that will be the highlight of your
Halloween party.

WOW!
Thanks for the tip, Ron! This will round out my upcoming Halloween party nicely! (Or should I say, "nastily"?) I had just been lamenting the fact that I cannot record my own DVD's to make a compilation tape for my party. Now it looks like all the work has been done for me, and then some!

I can't wait to pick this one up, but I wish it discussed some of the lesser-known, but equally influential slashers like Black Christmas, Terror Train, My Bloody Valentine, The Burning, Deep Red, and Happy Birthday to Me. Oh well. They can always make a Volume 2. :)

By the way, any rumblings on if Universal is going to release it's old horror documentary Terror in the Aisles on DVD? I have a very old VHS copy left over from my parents' video store but would like to see this one make it to DVD. Horror documentaries rock.

* The film was banned in Finland & censored
in Germany.
Ron,
that information on the DVD is most certainly incorrect or at least wrongly phrased...
A movie in Germany could very well be banned from sale after its release, restricted in sale and advertisment or cut by the publisher/director/studio to obtain a lower rating, but _never_ censored.
There simply is no institution in Germany which has the authority to mandate cuts in a movie (like for example the BBFC), in fact censorship per se is prohibited. (Well, that's the theory at least...

Just to clear that up.

Yeah, as cool as the name Cameron is, I think you meant to say Craven.

Sorry, guys...
Did not notice that typo. I indeed
meant to write CRAVEN, and I have changed it.

Something tells me, with all the numerous horror movies there are, and if this Vol I sells well, we just might see numerous volumes :)

Well, in one point the makers of "Boogeymen" didn't get their facts right. "A Nightmare on Elm Street" was never censored in Germany! In fact, the german version is longer (and gorier) than the US R-rated theatrical version.
