A couple of weeks ago we started on DVD Audio Survey and I wanted to post some of the results so far. Out of the ~700 members that have responded they following has been tabulated.

98.3% own a DVD player that connects to a TV
32.4% own a Large-screen projection TV
37.4% own Digital high-definition TV (HDTV)
84.9% own a Receiver/pre-processor with surround-sound decoder
86.4% own surround sound speakers

13.8% intend to purchase Digital high-definition TV (HDTV)
13.6% intend to purchase Surround sound speakers
(within the next 6 months)

89.9% selected Better picture quality
91.4% selected Better sound quality
70.8% selected Extra material included on DVD discs such as deleted scenes or behind-the-scenes footage
(reason in importance for buying a DVD player)

46.6% purchased 21+ discs in the last 6 months

50.1% own 101-500 DVDs

95.9% generally purchase Widescreen DVDs

83.3% generally purchase the Deluxe/special edition set

93.6% generally purchase Current Box Office hits
68.9% generally purchase "Classic" movies, such as "Lawrence of Arabia" and "Citizen Kane"

26.1% own 1 to 5 "classic movies"
31.4% own More than 25 "classic movies"

80.9% selected DVD is released in its original theatrical aspect ratio only.
00.7% selected DVD is released in pan-and-scan format.
74.6% selected DVD is released with both the original audio track as well a remastered stereo or surround-sound track such as Dolby® Digital or DTS® 5.1.
73.0% selected DVD has bonus features, such as director or actor commentaries, original theatrical trailers, behind-the- scenes, interviews, etc.

This is just some of the highlights from the member input some of the questions asked.

100% are HT sick and need help in some way
100% said they needed upgrades
100% agree this is the best site for information

You mean, there are 1.5% who own Surrouns Sound Speakers but no receiver to power them?!?!?!?! WTF!

I thought the same thing. I actually opened this thread looking for survey results about hi-res "DVD-Audio".

None of the results are too surprising for a home theater related message board.
