Richard: Thanks very much for your review of this title.
Ever since I posted the title in this week's RoundUp I've been wondering what it was all about. Your description satisfied my curiosity quite nicely. While it doesn't sound like my cup of tea, it does peak my interest. Maybe a rental sometime if I'm in the mood for something different.
I saw Taal (1999) at Ebertfest a few years ago and that's the extent of my Bollywood experience. Assuming that's typ. BW fare it's sort of like stepping into a time machine.
This is the second review I've seen calling it demo material so I'll rent this sucker and check it out.
Its sad that such a great Blu-Ray disc is wasted on a film, that is mediocre at best. Wish Sony would release Lagaan & Mission Kashmir soon witht he same quality.
Saawariya means "beloved". It is also one of the many names given to Lord Krishna, who was known to be the beloved of many women. It just occured to me, the reason that the director may have chosen to use the color blue as a backdrop in the film, may have something to do with the fact that Lord Krishna, who had a dark and dusky complexion, has been depicted frequently thru the ages as blue colored in many paintings and other works of art.
I agree with Sanjay. This is one absurd movie. I was offered a free DVD by CITIBANK on opening the account. I never got the DVD, but I decided not to press, as it is a waste of my time. The songs are very beautiful. I keep listening to them. Sorry, I will not see it again.
I've watched this several more times in the past weeks. Tonight I watched it with my 11 year old daughter who loved it. She asked if there were more films like this one. Anyone know if there are?
