On a budget of $1400 Sound and Vision chose the: Edge Audio 502D Series speaker system ($1,400)
    http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/Sou..._cm_00,00.html
    My choice would be:
    The Image 4T $399
    The Image 1B $216
    The Image 8C $219
    Hsu VTF-2 $449
    Total $1283 + SH $200 = $1483
What would be Your Choice for this budget system?

With $1400, I will save a little more and get this.

    JBL S Center $140
    TWO JBL S412 $740
    JBL S38 $280
    SVS 25-31PCi $500

JBL S38, S26, SCenter and an SVS 20-39PCi would fit that budget.

But if you can build the enclosures yourself, you could get 5 GR-Research AV1+ monitors and build a Tempest based sub within that budget. This would absolutely toast anything commercially available at the same cost.

    Onix Rockets: 2 Pairs RS-150, 1 RSC-100, Package price $1050
    Adire Audio Rava: $399
    Total: $1449 + S/H
If you can talk each side down $25, you've just made your budget [IMG]

    John,
Nothing wrong with the 'digms suggestion [IMG]
They always offer great value in their speakers.

for $1200 i would get an Ascend package of 5 CBM 170's and a HSU VTF-2 sub.
with a good reciever like a NAD 761, they sound like speakers i've heard in the $1200 per pair range.
    no hyperbole.
i'm very impressed with what i've been hearing this past week.

The PSB setup seems awful good for what's being mentioned here on this thread. The DIY setup seems good but then again there are only so many folks that can DIY products like speakers.

If the PSB setup isn't for them, another suggestion would be a Klipsch package.
    SC1 - $280 MSRP
    SF1 - $500 MSRP
    SS1 - $400 MSRP
    HSU VTF-2 - $449

Total is $1629 but you can get this down by 10-20% easily if you shop around.

For me, the nOrh 4.0 package for $850 delivered and SVS 25-31 (retuned to 22Hz) for $499 plus shipping would suffice quite nicely. [IMG]

I would second BryanZ suggestion... in fact it looks very familiar... oh wait! That is the system I *own*! [IMG] (except I have standard tuning on the 25-31)

    John,

I haven't heard much about your "B system" Rocket setup lately? Should be pretty well broken in now, what are your impressions?

I'll second Paul's vote for the Ascend Acoustics system. 5 CBM-170s with a Hsu VTF-2 sub is a tremendous value for both music and HT!
