My younger brother is interested in getting a start in home theater. His budget is $600 for 5 speakers and a sub, or $800 for the speakers + the receiver. He already has the DVD player and TV. I have started looking at options like the energy packages, http://www.absoluteaudiovideo.com/entaksyswit8.html

    Charles,
For what it's worth, Home Theater Direct http://www.hometheaterdirect.com/ has gotten quite good reviews for its speakers, despite their low cost. I haven't heard them myself, but their 30day no-questions return policy seems quite reasonable.

Thanks for the info. I had kind of forgotten about HTD because he upped his budget from $400/600 to $600/800. I think the level IIs would fit the bill. Much nicer looking than a HTB solution IMHO
