Craig...there is a difference with "mailing" results to Ed and having Ed do his own tests.

You are two seperate people, different rooms, etc.

The UFW-10 has been easily available, and a different perspective would be great for everyone.

Just wishing you guys would branch out a bit is all. You seem to be doing mostly AV123/MLS related stuff, and Ed SVS/Hsu stuff.

Curtis - We are doing groundplane measurements outdoors with the same microphone, software and methodology. Other than ambient tempature and humidity, which will account for perhaps a 1 dB difference, our results will be the same.

As far as the company whose gear I am testing... I always had the welcome mat out for any and all. My criteria for tests....

1. Blind listening.
2. Measure in room response to ensure that the equipment was place in the most advantageous location. If not (as in the STF-1) , move the unit.
3. Post blind test results.
4. take feedback and try to work through others' opinions
5. Have fun.

AV123 seems to like the blind testing route. Even when their product took a second place, they were gracious and sent more stuff for review. Since I needed more speakers for the next theater room, I agreed to buy this gear and post the listening results.

Some people did not like the blind testing... and do not wish for me to do more. That is cool... If Ed wants to review the UFW-10, I would love it.

I am not going to suggest he spend another 100 hours doing a review... that is HIS call...

You guys have the same exact equipment and methodology?

I understand your blind listening tests, but nobody is there to verify the setup, right. :)

If you agree to buy the gear, is it unbiased?

Both of the STF-2 subs I tested performed/measured very similarly. If your unit is performing very well, I wouldn't be concerned about it. You can always email Dr. Hsu for details/reassurance if your curiosity is still getting the better of you.

Regards,

Ed

I'm actually in the market for a new car myself -- and man, i gotta say that the magnum is looking more and more appealing each time I see it.

Have you bought one yet?

I was talking to my CEO just yesterday who knows a dealer in Vegas. Average days those spend on his lot? One. He's charging 4 grand over sticker and people are happy to pay it.

The PT Cruiser and VW New Beetle both commanded over-sticker prices when first introduced and now can be had for well under. I suspect the same will prove true for the Magnum. If you can wait a year, you can save several thousand dollars and also avoid most new-model glitches that may occur on early production cars. The Cruiser, btw seems to have avoided most of the early production problems so the outlook for the Magnum is probably pretty good.

From what I've heard, there have been no production issues w/ the Magnum just yet. As you said, looks like someone learned their lesson. I've read nothing but fabulous things from Car/Driver, etc. about the magnum's performance.

I really want another svs. I think three is a good number..... Although now the HSU STF-2 is on sale locally for $199. If it is in stock when I check today it might be too good to pass up. This one is going to go in a bedroom on my computer for games and the kids to watch movies on.
