    Hi All,
Total newb here, done a lot of searching and I still am lost:

I have a HP Pavillion 750N, it has onboard AC97 Audio.

I want to connect it to my receiver, Yamaha RX-V2200. I will be ripping my CD's to my hard drive and also playing MP3's. I want good quality sound, does not need to be "audiophile" but close.

    1. on the back it has a hole labeled in, one for out and one for mic. What type of cabling do I require?
    2. If I get another sound card, exitgy, santa cruz, audigy etc. will this truly improve the sound? And what cabling would I require.
    3. If I get a new soundcard with digital out, what does it matter which sound card, as then the receiver will be the DAC?
    4. Is my receiver's DAC likely to be better than a sound cards?

Sorry, trying to get my PC to be a source, it is through an interior wall from my stereo and it would be great to use it as a music server.

    Cheers
    Ken

I was just searching for the same type of information. I have a new HP pavillion 761 (not sure of sound card) and i'd like to connect it to my Rotel RSX-1055 receiver.
Similarly, my card has a single audio out jack. Any insight on the type of cable needed (DIY is OK) would be great.
    Thanks!
