I know I'm very late on this but thought I would like to chime in:
If he got the unit for free or close to it I could see him as a theif, but $300 for a the equipment doesn't sound like it's much of a loss for Kenwood. I could be wrong since I don't have pricing for HUs in front of me for when they first came out. They are currently $150-450 for the current line up of XM and Siruis compatible Kenwood HUs (without video displays like the Kenwood KVT-715DVD that plays DVDs)
