I've been trying to purchase Disney's Mulan, but the only place I can find it right now is eBay. Unfortunately, some of the DVDs for Mulan listed there just have to be bootlegs...or at the very least, IMPORTS.

How can I tell if I am purchasing the correct U.S. R1 (Limited or Gold collection) release?

    Robert,

It appears that DVD Boxoffice still has it available.

Look for the region coding. If it's R1 only, it should be a legitimate US version.

Of course, you have to watch out for the R1 knockoff cartoon (I think called Legend of Mulan) that people sometimes palm off as Disney's Mulan.

Here is the Amazon Marketplace page showing what people are selling MULAN for there. Some of these descriptions make it clear that they are selling the original Disney Region 1 version. Look for somebody with good feedback.

I've never bought anything from people on Amazon Marketplace, but I've sold quite a few DVDs there. (No, I don't have MULAN for sale.)

I thought the rumor was for a special edition release of MULAN sometime. Any news on that? The current version isn't the best for picture quality.

Yeah, I think it's a good idea to try and go by the feedback of the seller. While doing just that, I noticed that one of the ones selling what he described as a region 1 disc was in fact auctioning off an all-region DVD...and got bad feedback because of it.

As for dvdboxoffice.com having it in stock. I really don't believe that. The last time they said they had something in stock (that was out of print elsewhere), I ordered it and then after several days of not hearing anything, I went and checked the order status...only to find that it was on BACK ORDER. Which to me means the same thing as out of stock...Thanks, though!

The Ebay sellers of bootlegs are habitual liars, it's impossible to ask them for legitimacy

    Stephen,

It was only last month that you purchased Mulan from them?

Perhaps I should give them another chance...

This title is in dire need of a *real* high-quality 16x9 transfer and SE DVD. Along with Pocohontas and Little Mermaid...2 other *horrible* looking DVD transfers that Disney should be embarassed they ever released.

    Robert,

Go to www.bordersstores.com and type in a zip code. Add 6 stores to your list and search their inventory. If you find one with a "yes" availabilty, call the store and confirm they actually have it. If they do, they will ship it directly to you for the price plus $4 shipping.

If you don't find it, type in a new zip code and search 6 more stores.

    Rinse and repeat. [IMG]

I used this method a while back to sucessfully find the OOP 2-disc Patton.
