Warner just announced recently some great catalog titles (more Astaire/Rogers, Masterpieces collection, ect.) on DVD. But why not release these on HD simultaneously? I guess its a business decision.

When will title releases for HD and DVD occur simultaneously?

    Paul,

I would assume, from prior practice, the studios are going to
start releasing NEW THEATRICAL day and date DVD/HD-DVD first.

The problem with them releasing catalog titles day and date
DVD/HD-DVD is you'll never buy the title twice on two different
formats, and we all know the studios strive to get consumers to
purchase a title in as many incarnations and formats as possible.

When they think the market penetration is enough to support such a business case. I want "Grand Prix" on HD so I'll have to be patient and ignore it's SD DVD release on Tuesday.

To some degree they already have in that Warner Bros released Rumor Has It on a hybrid DVD/HD-DVD. There may have been more hybrid releases but I'm not aware of any.

That's true, those new titles will probably appear on HD and DVD at the same time.

I must admit though, catalog DVD announcements just aren't as exciting when HD is here. Can't wait to find out what the first Warner box will be on HD! Maybe Superman?

Poseidon - separate releases, same content, same PRICE.
    That's progress.

Other day and date releases were "Fire Wall" released 6/6/06 and "16 Blocks", released 6/13/06.

The problem with these "same day releases", is that you have been FORCED[IMG] to buy the DVD, along with the HD DVD on the same disc ('HD DVD and DVD COMBO Formatted'), "Rumor Has It", "Fire Wall". "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" and "16 Blocks" and at an SRP of $39.99 a pop! (Shopping for discounts helped.[IMG]) The only exception to this was the latest 6/20/06 release - "Syriana".
Hopefully, they will be separated from there DVD counterpart from now on.[IMG]
