I have Mission 774s with 771s as rears and 77c as my center. What should I set my crossover as? Do I just use the frequency response specs in the speakers' manuals or is it more of a play it by ear thing?

Phil,

What are the frequency response specs for the Mission speakers you mentioned?

Does the Sony let you set different xovers for each speaker group?

For instance, just as an example with a sub plugged into the sub-out, they might be set as follows;

774s mains xover at 60Hz (if they spec to 40Hz)

77c center xover at 100Hz (if it specs to 70Hz)

771s rear surrounds xover at 80Hz (if they spec to 50Hz)

Otherwise you might try 80Hz for all of them.

It's probably an experiment by ear thing to see what you like best. You should never set the xover at the speakers -3dB low point, as this will mean your speakers+sub will be weak on some frequencies. Always set it higher, as much as an octave higher is possible.
