How often do you find it necessary to tweak convergence? (1 Viewer)

I tweaked my RPTV's convergence last January - it was as close to perfect as possible (using Avia crosshatch at 100 IRE). Last night - four months later - while the convergence still looks pretty good - it had clearly changed. Is this normal? My TV is just over three years old. I am going to tweak it this weekend. Using the "fine" mode works.

Also, My TV was ISF'd about a year and half ago - How often is it necessary?

I usually have to do it once a month, on my Toshiba TW40X81 (40 inch RPTV). It's not a big deal, although can be a little bit time consuming. I also have to wait an hour for the set to warm up first.

My three year old Sony KP-53HS10 seems to hold its convergence really, really well (I can quickly check it by bringing up the on-screen menu which consists of lots of white letters & lines). I barely ever need to mess with it, and I'm picky. That's another reason my LCD projector is so nice...no more convergence problems!

I have a brand new 1 week old rptv it is the 42" toshiba cinema series hdtv widescreen. Its 42hdx82 i think or something like that. Ive done the manual convergence about 3 times and its still not right. It seems fine and then the next day its totally out of wack. So i adjust again and it looks great. Next day its back to the way it was.
I thought maybe it needs a full convergence. Would that make it not hold a 9 point for longer than a day or is it not holding because of some other reason???
And if it is messed up should i call the techs for free service or should i return for a brand new one which will cost me $50 to do. Thanks for the help.

RPTV's need a 100 hour break in period, after that the tv should stop drifting as much and not need convergences as often.

Also you should do the 56 point convergence not the 9 point

Also, make sure your RPTV has been warmed up 20-30 minutes before you ever adjust the convergence. When I had my Mits. It would need a touch-up every couple of months.

I have a Sony KP57HW40, 19 months old.

It has flash focus auto-convergence and manual convergence is available in the service menu.

I've never felt the need to do a manual convergence on it. I've never seen it drift either, but hit the flash focus button about once every month or two.

My sub is right next to the set, and all that vibration has never affected the convergence on the set.

I've also had 2 Hitachis with auto-convergence and my experience with them was the same as with the Sony with one exception--convergence would be a tiny bit off at initial startup and settle in after 15 minutes to half an hour.

I am fussy about convergence, having once returned an rptv that I could not get to converge properly.

What I have seen on every rptv I've ever owned is a bit of color fringing on mediocre sources when watching talking heads with a blue background (the evening news on local cable). I think this is due to the intentional defocussing of the blue gun done by all mfgs, or possibly a yc delay problem from my cable system as I don't see it on dvd or HD.

In my experience once you get your convergence dead-on it takes very little touch ups ever couple of months. And I'm talking the kind of touch ups only us freaks would even notice. :)

But as posted the key is to let the TV warm up and get to operating temp - 45 minutes to 1 hour seems about right - before you adjust.

Yeah, I only need to use the fine mode. It looks good, just needs a little tweak to be as good as possible. I was just curious if this is pretty normal to do every few mos. or so and I guess it is.
