Yeah, unbreakable had some really cool bass. Very nice in some important regards which I'll go into detail about once we get all the new JPGs up.
Tom, can you save the waterfalls in .gif format? JPEG is most useful for things like photographs, but can make for bluriness and artifacting on something with text and intricate lines like the waterfall graphs. It might turn out to be a smaller file as well.

Wow, I just dug out my TS2 DVD and played the Monsters Inc. trailer (I didn't even realise it was on there). The door and footsteps combined with the SVS are awesome!!! And this is coming from a person with one underpowered 16-46 in a large open HT-unfriendly designed room. This is another one of the dvds where I can say I can feel the sub working its magic! :D

I don't know about everyone else but the news of these new waterfall graphs are getting me excited, nothing like seeing it on paper to know what you are hearing thru your ears.

I noticed some pretty sweet bass in LOTR during the big battle scene when there's that explosion and HUMMMM.

Now whenever I see a movie and hear bass, I think "Sweet bass" when everyone else that is normal can just enjoy the movie. hehe

Glen,

I'm about 75 scenes into the current session...using .jpg

I'm not going to redo those...but I'll see if .gif helps.

I'll see if Ron can get a new look waterfall of TPM up for you guys to get a peak of the new style,

Tom, did you ever get around to those music waterfall graphs too? I seem to remember a whole thread full of suggestions.

Here's a quick peak at what the new ones will look like,
BIG files, we haven't compressed yet so I'll just post the links.
This is the Monsters Inc waterfall, top show the knocking, bottom peaks are the monsters hitting the floor...

Here's the THX intro to TPM,
top is the ball booming,
bottom reverse sweeps are the telltale thx *WRRRRRrrrrrrrrmmmmm*...but with the added 18-19hz fundamental now...:)

look ok?

Those waterfalls look great, TV. I'll have to really crank it and listen to the Monsters, Inc., trailer again. Thanks.

Much better than the old ones. With the color coding you can actually see relative intensity level now, sweet :D
Although, what is it relative too?

I measure with the sub out of the MC-12 patched direct into the soundcard. All speakers set to small. 30dB under reference level.

I have the settings on the analyzer to show amptitude *plateaus* with only the very highest peaks.

The monsters clip doesn't *anvil*...but the THX one has a little anvil/plateau action as the ball explodes.

How loud are these peaks? Assuming no compression(no limiting in any way)...in the 120dB range.

I'm not sure if I'm understanding correctly.

So with a system at reference level red would be ~120dB, orange ~110dB, and green ~100dB? And light blue to dark blue taking you from ~90dB down to ~70dB?

Holy frickin guacamole Batman!!!!
I knew that THX intro was da bomb (literally speaking). Damn, I'm going to have to get home soon and play that MI trailer.
htf_images_smilies_yum.gif

If I turn my system up too loud on the THX intro, my 20-39 bottoms out (I have it set slightly hot with the S1000 pushing 500w to it), but damn it sounds good.

I'm guessing when you see the *anvils* from the upper amptitude range being exceeded...that would be in the 117-120dB range if it was played back uncompressed.

If I am reading TPM correct it looks like the highest spl is at 73hz at about 13 seconds into the scene, also high at 38hz throughout the scene, then a decent spike at 18hz.

OH MY GOD. That THX trailer is just brutal for the sub. It's good to know I've got an SV that can take it. Graphs look great Tom, thanks. Looking forward to more in the future when you get the chance.

The loudest in the THX is in the mid to upper 30s, see where the top *anvils* because the amptitude maxxes out on the analyzer settings?(toward the top). That's the ball exploding.

I guess I was looking at the colors like a topographic map where the largest peaks occur when you have the most contours occuring, It would be cool to see this in a x and y plain so you can see the highest spikes regardless of time.
