Okay, the market has become oversaturated with shows about people remodeling other people's houses.

    Changing Rooms
    Trading Spaces
    While You Were Out
    Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
... just to name a few

Enough that my wife has complete control of the T.V. ALL WEEKEND.

I enjoy the new one on ABC, Extreme Makeover : Home Edition. It's pretty impressive that they can TOTALLY remodel a house in a week. Now that's pretty cool. They make some pretty huge changes. Currently, I am forced into watching:

Divine Design. Candice does do a good job

Sell This House. I have no idea why she watches this. Our house was sold 3 months ago.

Trading Spaces. Please make it stop.

Clean Sweep. I want to die.

We don't have cable/sat, so I can easily avoid most of them, and I generally avoid "reality tv" completely. However, we have really been enjoying Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

I watched a few of them about 5 years ago, but decided that I neither had the inclination, nor the resources to do what I wanted done, so I avoid these shows at all costs. Oh, and I don't have a wife prodding me either. [IMG]

The question might as well be "How many Reality Shows do we need?" [IMG]

Well, I USED to love Trading Spaces, but I just got burnt out on it. As for the others... I offer a resounding... Meh.

except for bob villa (that guy just strikes me as a pompous ass), i agree with every show lewb stated.

ask this old house = those guys i trust completely.
hometime = trust just as much
men in toolbelts = don't trust at all, but love to watch
yankee workshop = norm (?) is simply "the man"

trading spaces = used to love it, burned out quickly. hilde must die

design on a dime = cheap, cheesy looking stuff. like i really want to hot-glue lace to my lamp-shade. [IMG]

monster-house = neat to watch, but completely unreasonable. don't watch it anymore.

good gawd ... there *are* a lot of shows aren't there....???

I'm glad someone mentioned Monster House I dig that show. Some pretty cool things happen there. But I'm really into Discovery channel on Monday night. (Thank god for the PVR since I'm working).

I gotta agree with all the trading spaces burn outs, the show was always low quality (anyone who paints over wall paer should know its a bad idea) but it was charming at first. But now they're gonna pay off Mortgages.

I watched that suprise design one once and found it dull.

Did anyone mention the top shelf HI show with Christopher Lowell.

Lately I have wondered "Do we really need so many reality based shows?"

I get enough real life everyday and want to escape after work not delve into someone else's real life.

There are more, some I don't even remember the names.

    Surprise By Design
    Decorating Cents
There actually 2 different versions of Design On A Dime.
    Room By Room
    Debbie Travis Makeover
    Makeover Mammas
What about House Of Dreams? Nobody mentioned that crazy show. It is a "Survivor" type reality show where a bunch of people compete to build a house from "scratch" and they are eliminated one by one and whoever wins gets to keep the house. The show is hosted by George Wendt ( I think that's him, the big guy from Cheers)

Courtney Cox and her husband David Arquette are also producing a house makeover show as well.

One more home improvement show or DVD I would pay big to see: Out takes from This Old House.

I marvel at Norm and Tom's skill. I guess that comes from a lifetime in 'the trades'. Sort of raises the bar a bit too high for weekend warriors like myself.

If they could just put together an hour and a half DVD with out takes of these 2 guys F'ing up, I think it could go a long way to help guys like me realize that even the best have bad days.
Donate the profits to Habitat for Humanity and I think this could be a BIG gift item for the home handy man.

Mission: Organization (complete w/ M:I rip-off theme song and graphics)
