    Just like the subject says.
I was wondering if anyone can tell me how many DVD-Audio and SACD titles have been released.

    Thanks in advance.

I can't tell you how many DVD-A or SACD titles have been released, but for good info check out www.highfidelityreview.com for reviews and links to the record companies.

I remember reading that there are 600+ SACDs available.

DVD-A has less... I believe it's around the 200-300 mark.

    The answer is easily.....NOT ENOUGH!!!!

Why are DVD-A titles sooooooooo slow to make it to the shelves? Is the format dying an early death?

I'm curious, do you guys know the average number of releases for SACD & DVD-Audio that come out per week?

Thanks for the quick responses, you guys are great!

I definately agree that there aren't enough out there. But hopefully with some hybird DVD-A and SACD players (Pioneer and the new Marantz DV8300 released here in Japan) both formats will pick up.
Definately the only way I listen to music now.

    Thanks again.

    Friends,
I have seen SACD totals over 700 on a global basis. There are usually more than a handful, 3-4, released every week, if not more. With the announced titles in rock and pop hitting the street in the fall, the pace will be much greater.

    Lee,

Given past history of missed dates from both formats, I have to agree with Keith's standard reply to this type of posting, which goes something like this:

"I'll believe it when I have the disc in my hand.".

    Lee,

Had Keith typed the same words, what would your reply have been?

800 titles in 3+ years equates to < 1 title per day on average, or more accurately ~5 titles / week.

Not exactly setting the world on fire.

John, I have to defend Lee on this one. I have watched on numerous occasions the two of you banter about the direction of the high rez formats, etc, etc. Whereas Lee may on occasion show an over-exuberance towards availability of future releases, there really is no reason for you to be so damn negative about both the scope and direction of the format(s). I understand you like to correct Lee on occasion when he is erroneous with info or when he posts things that are unconfirmed, but do you have an ax to grind with the high rez formats? It's almost like you are wishing them to fail with all of your cynical comments and sarcasm.

Rome wasn't built in a day you know.

Evan, it's hard to be positive about something that's almost not existing, and that's for both formats.
I have a feeling if we were all happy about all the exiting news of the new labels that signed on and we gave each other a group hug, that still wouldn't get anymore titles released would it?
So you can choose any "mood" it won't make a difference, only if the labels will get off of their collective asses, and start releasing titles fast that will!

    Evan,

Would you like a pointer to all the threads where Keith has actually used words similar to my own? If someone else had posted the same words, it would not have been greeted in the same fashion.

It's nice, and it's a niche market for both DVD-A and SACD, and will remain so for the forseeable future, regardless of what some individuals want you to think.

    For John and Lee:
I'll believe it when I see it.

This is still my attitude with both formats.

    Lee,

Let's say the released titles doubled annually. That's a guesstimated growth with easy to play with numbers.

Let's call it 800 titles as of July 1, 2002
    We'd have 1600 titles on July 1, 2003
    3200 for July 2004
    6400 for July 2005

How many titles a year do the big boys release? How many in their back catalogs? What about all those DSD consoles that are going to be required.

These are fair and reasonable questions to address.
