How long before 3d soundtracks? (1 Viewer)

By 3d, I mean companies keep adding all these channels around the listener in the left/right/front/back directions, but not in the up and down directions.
eg. If a plane flies over from behind you, the sound doesn't, it just goes straight through you from front to back. How long will it be before we have a sense of up and down in the soundtrack as well? Or has it already been done?

I just upgraded to 7.2, delete your message and don't mention it again.

Let the joking aside, you hear the effects from all directions, you have to think sound field not speaker location. A 5.1 system is capable of playing any 3d effect or experience IMO.
