One website claimed that the picture was too bright, ruining small details. What do you guys think? I want to buy it but will wait if a better version of the film will be released. I realize the extras are good, but it is the film that I am concerned about.

Your not gonna get a better version. The transfer and sound are really nice. The best the film as ever looked and the Documentary's are excellent. Get it!

Agreed. It's a wonderful disc for a great film.

Well, I took a look at the Special Edition, and I am concerned that the contrast is off in some scenes, particularly the prom scene. The fire is really bright, so white that it blocks out much of Sissy Spacek in certain shots..in the visualizing doc. the fire is warmer, a rich orange and yellow. In the film, it is so bright that it is practically white.

if you skip the shower scene where carrie gets her period, then the picture is ok. during that scene, there is a little purpleish line that can be disstracting, but it is a very good transfer and 5.1 remix overall.
