Considering his work in Far and Away mixed with A Few Good Men, I think he could play a colonial military officer assigned to the region.

I think it's a good part for him to take and should provide plenty of dramatic moments for him to work with. Plus it keeps his work extremely diverse. He really goes all over the place in what movies he chooses to do.

He'll play snotty and pompous perhaps and become humbled by the decay of feudal Japan that he will witness. At least that's one way I could see it going.
