But I do confess: if you ever see how they actually make the glazed doughnuts, you'd probably never eat another one again due the visualization of your arteries clogging up at the very sight of them. I did, but then I quickly put it out of my mind and consumed 4 doughnuts rather hastily.

You can't judge KK donuts by the ones you get in the supermarket. They aren't quite the same as getting them from the donut shop. Personally, I LOVE the chocolate covered glazed ones. I can't eat them anymore due to some recent health issues but man, did I ever enjoy those things.

I grew up in VA. and they were always there. I moved to Vegas in 98 and I believe KK opened their first store in '00. You would have thought they were giving away free money judging by the lines at the store. They have little satellite stores open in alot of the casinos now.

One just opened nearby and the store hired off duty police officers for 2 weeks to direct traffic. It's been over 2 weeks and the lines are still 20 cars deep in the drive thru and worse yet inside the store. Talk about mass hysteria. Maybe 1 day I'll try them but I refuse to wait in that long of a line. They must be good though if people are that crazy to wait in line.

Aaron,

I had them when I was down in Vegas. They were okay but I didn't have them hot out of the oven. I hear those are really good. Since your in B.C. I'll compare them to Tim Horton's donuts. When not right out of the oven they are comparable to Timmy's.

I've also heard that Krispy Kreme is opening quite a few stores in Canada over the next year so we'll be able to sample them first hand here soon. To compete Timmy's is going to move towards giving you donuts hot out of the oven too. Competitiion is good!

They use smart tactics by giving a warm glzed donugnut free to customers (don't know if they still do) because they are best warm. I think they are better but are only very good when they are still warm.

I have had them fresh off the conveyor, and honestly it was just another doughnut to me. Personally I felt the glaze was too thick.

I think their yeast doughnuts (glazed, jelly et al) are the best. The cake ones are so, so in my opinion. The company is going to be supplying non bakery outlets with a special warming gizmo so they should taste better.

This just in:

WINSTON-SALEM (Reuters) - Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. said on Monday that because of strong sales in the first quarter it is increasing the number of new stores it plans to open this fiscal year to 62 from 59.

"We are off to a very strong start this year," said Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Scott Livengood. "We expect to see increasing store opening momentum over the course of this year.

"As a result, we are increasing our projection of new store openings for the current fiscal year from 59 new stores to 62 new stores." Krispy Kreme had 218 stores in the United States and Canada as of Feb 3.

The company also said it has awarded development rights to five new markets in three states -- Texas, Wyoming and Montana -- to three franchisee groups.

KK-TX, LLC will develop stores over the next five years in Lubbock and Amarillo, Texas; Rigel Corp. has agreed to develop stores in El Paso, Texas, and L&L Enterprise Holdings, LLC will develop stores in Montana and Wyoming.

My wife and I became instant addicts with our first bite of the hot, original glazed. Although I agree with Thi Them - they actually taste better when cooled down. Still soft and chewy as hell, but the glaze has a better feel.

We did find our overdose point. After 72 KK doughnuts in 3 days, we're done for awhile. Or maybe for a couple of weeks.

15-20 seconds in the microwave should restore the supermarket-boxed ones to bakery-like freshness.

Not to derail the thread topic, but you know what else tastes great after 15-20 seconds in the microwave? A Moon-Pie. The chocolate coating melts, the cookie part becomes soft, and the marshmallow filling e-x-p-a-n-d-s.

Anyway, I've noticed several people talk about Krispy Kreme doughnuts coming fresh out of the oven. "Oven" might not be the right word. Not when the conveyor belt takes rows of doughnuts for a stroll through a shallow pool of hot oil, flips them over to cook the other side, then passing through a waterfall-like curtain of glaze.

I like the ones with the white creme filling, just don't get them very often
now what I really go nuts for is a fresh warm Cin-a-bon, I think they average about 20,000 calories each and are as close to "the food of the Gods" as anything on earth is:)

So you EACH averaged a dozen donuts a day for three days? Damn, that means I don't have to feel guilty if I eat four or five in a 24 hour period. :D

KK doughnuts are good, but not God's gift to mankind that people say they are. If you are in Central Texas, the place to go for doughnuts is Lone Star Bakery in Round Rock. Long lines on Sunday's, but when I was a kid we it was a joyous day when my Dad would get up early before church and get us some. Damn, want one right now.

Reading all those descriptions makes my mouth water big time!

The first Canadian store opened a few months ago in Mississauga, Ontario and we had a similar experience to that described by Chet_F. During the first two months, they had one of those winding lines set up under a canopy for people just to get into the store. It looked like they were lining up for some spectacular rollercoaster ride.

I finally took my cousin visiting from Malaysia to check it out during a lull early afternoon one day and marvelled at the conveyor system they use. While waiting in line, an employee offered each of us a free glazed doughnut (we were actually waiting long enough for a second free glazed to come around). That's one way to get hooked.

Interestingly, I heard that this store was making almost half a million dollars a week when it first opened. Today, the canopy is gone but they still get very busy both at the drive-thru and inside.

The closest Krispy Kreme to Seattle, opened up in Issiquah about 7 months ago. Issiquah is 15 miles East out of town (which sucks for someone without a car). I hear there are still very long lines in the morning.

I noticed there is a KK at Pac Bell Park (I am going down to SF for a Giants game in 3 weeks) but if they're not going to be hot out of the oven, it sounds like there is no point.

Personally I prefer cake-type doughnuts with chocolate frosting, so KK probably isn't geared for me anyway. Besides, it sounds like if you go to any good donut shop and get them straight out of the oven, you get the same effect as KK. I think I assumed there was some sort of cream filling in the donuts that had to be eaten hot.

Seattle is usually the last "big" city to get any of the big chains. We don't have any Carl's Jr.s or In N Out Burgers (a Fatburger opened up in Redmond, which is still out there for a non-car owner). Nor do we have any Popeyes or Sonic Diners, though there are always ads for all of the above on TV. All of the A & W's and Dairy Queens have dissapeared (my two favorite fast food burger places). Likewise Shakey's Pizza. (I don't need to be flamed if you hate any of the restaurants mentioned)

On the other hand we have way too many Taco Del Mar's and Teriyaki places.
