Just wondering how THX Ultra2 sounds for 5.1 tracks versus:
1) 5.1 Logic7
2) normal DD-EX/DTS-ES 6.1 Matrixing

Please be descriptive. Would be great to hear from MC12 owners as they have all 3 :)

THX UltaII nor any other THX Label is a "sound format"

THX Select, THX Ultra, THX Automotive and THX Ultra II are
a list of criteria a product must meet (plus a fee) to wear
the logo, and also a Re-Equalization and Decorrelation
feature.

I don't see how it would sound any different unless you
had the Re-Eq enguaged (which rolls off the high end) other
than that, it should not effect the DD.EX,ES or DTS EX,ES
Sound Formats being played.

Brett,

"THX UltaII nor any other THX Label is a "sound format" "

All of the THX labels on processors also include THX processing modes.

The original THX processing of Dolby Surround material included Re-EQ, Timbre matching on the surrounds and decorrelation. Even with Re-EQ off the THX mode would sound differently then say plain DPL processing. Now there are DPLII THX modes as well.

Then THX was expanded for DD material and included Dynamic Decorrelation which is only applied to mono material in the surrounds. Again it sounds different then plain DD decoding.

THX Surround EX steers out a rear mono channel from DD material along with the other THX processing.

THX Ultra 2 includes processing on the rear mono channel sort of like a Spatializer effect for the material played back on two rear speakers.

Ricky,

MC-12s don't (yet??) have Ultra 2. To compare them all back to back you want to talk to an MC-8 owner as it can do them all.
