A friend of mine has finally got rid of his Bose system and has decided to spend $800 on a new system. This is what I've come up with so far.

    Reciever
    Pioneer VSX-D711
    Pioneer VSX-D511
    Denon 1603

    Speakers
Center: JBL S Center II or JBL N Center II
Main: JBL N38II or JBL N28
    Rear: JBL N28

    Subwoofer
    Sony SA-WM40 Subwoofer

I like the S Center over the N Center but will there be a problem with timbre matching?
He already has a decent dvd player.
His listening habits are about 90% movies.

I use the Jbl N26's for the rear only as i like there live sound but would not use the others for the mains.

    Reason is Front stage Quality.

Timbre between the fronts should be matched perfectly. Though the N and S series will probably be an acceptable blend, with S-center, I would highly recommend your mains be Studio series also. Ns for rears with Ss as mains is fine.

    Looks good so far.

If he can squeeze out a few pennies more (or actually it may still fit the budget) he may want to get the Pioneer 811. It's a great receiver and if he had any other future upgrades down the road, this receiver can fit the bill.
