I have a Panasonic 36HX41, and I can't seem to find any information on how it handles 720p (upconvert, downcovert). I have it in my head that it upconverts to 1080i, but I can't confirm it. Anyone know?

If your panasonic has a built in HD turner, it converts 720p to 1080i...If it requires a external STB HD tuner, the STB converts 720p to 1080i...In either case, it is not the set but the tuner whether external or internal that does the 720p to 1080i conversion.

I would guess it downconverts it to 480P, unless you feed it a signal from an external decoder that upconverts it itself, before it reaches the set. The set is only HD-ready, and must have an external decoder to display true high-def (1080i)

It does not accept a 720p input at all and you shouldn't try to feed it one either.

Why not? What would happen if I tried?

You would get nothing. A blank picture.

It is, supposedly, possible to damage the set.
