Now in the manual for the TV is says all 3 hi-def inputs accept the 720p format. But I've read that the TV actually degrades 720p to 480p!! Why on earth would it do that!!???

Would a 720p picture downgraded to a 480p look better than a standard 480p picture?

I've always thought that if a TV didn't accept 720p that it would upgrade it to 1080i. Now why on Earth wouldn't this new Sony either: a)accept and play a 720p video /// or b)upconvert it to 1080i??? Why the downgrade in picture quality?

I want to play all my 720p Xbox games in all thier glory, not stinking 480p

after doing some reading, i've read people state that the sony 500 series downgraded the 720p to 480p and that the 510's upgrade the 720p to 1080i?? So which is it???

I own the 47" version and the manual clearly states that the picture is downconverted. It seems fairly common for TVs to downconvert 720p if it's not native, as in the case of the Sony.

Can't comment on picture quality, all I've seen are my DVDs which look great and not-so-hot standard analog cable.

I own the KP51WS510. The owners manual states in the "features" section that Hi Scan 1080 enables you to receive the 1080i, 720p, 480p, and 480i digital TV formats. I didn't see where it down converted 720 to 480. Scratch that last. Just found it on page 41 of the manual. 720 is displayed as 480. Dang.
