I'm curious as to how everyone reads the HTF. After loading the page, here's what I do.

Hit spacebar until I'm down to the After Hours forum. Read what's new, reply if necessary. Go back to the main page. Scroll up, check in on video games software. Check in on Video Games Hardware, check in on the Computer forum. If it's a Sunday, check on the Coupons forum. After that, it's up to the "meat" of the site, the Movies forum. See what the latest debate is in the Lord of the Rings thread (Saruman In/Out/Alive/Dead, Scouring of the Shire, Blade/Line is broken), and see what's going on with other movies I've seen, or want to see (Eternal Sunshine is up there for me right now). I check on the TV software forum if I'm waiting for a particular series to show up on DVD (now that I know Coupling Season 3 is on the way, I'm happy), and then head to the Movie Software forum. I mostly ignore the star wars thread, but look around for other interesting release news or reviews. After that, I'm done, but I'll come back to the HTF a few more times each day to do the same thing.

There are five primary ones I particularly check out. First, I go to HT Films on DVD to check out the latest news and thoughts about the new films on DVD. Then I check out the recently-added HT TV on DVD, a good spinoff of HT Films, since there's some good TV shows I can't wait to see on DVD.

I then go to Movies to check on what's out and what's coming out soon. Ditto for the TV/HDTV section to look at the WWE, Smallville, and Enterprise sections. Finally, I come to After Hours to chill out and see what everyone is thinking and talking about other than DVDs.

I'll sometimes check out the Software for Sale board to see if there are any good deals I may be interested in - to date I've not found anything...bummer... :frowning: But it's okay :)

With my bionic eyes...

I usually hit Tweaking and Accessories first to find any low to no price tweaks. Check Weekly round-up on tuesday a.m. After that, no formula, bro. Just dive in all over the place.

I do know I avoid LOTR and Star Wars threads like they are the plague.

ALso HTF is off-limits on the weekend.

In this order:

HT Films On DVD
Movies
TV and HDTV
Music Area
Hardware For Sale
Videogame Software

then back up to
A/V Sources
A/V Power
Speakers

I then head off to my other forums, run through them and then come back to

HT Interiors and finally here to After Hours.

I've kept that routine for sometime now :)

For me:

1.) Check the latest reviews and the new release list (on Mondays only) after checking out the headlines on NYTimes.com

2.) Display Devices

3.) Audio and Video Sources

4.) After Hours

5.) Films on DVD

It's ritual. If I can't do it, my whole day is off.

I opened a similar thread like this awhile ago.

For me the first thing I do (since they've changed the home page is).

1. Look to see what new threads are out, if any seem interesting.

2. Next I'm hit search. Search my user name to see if any new posting to any threads that I've posted on. (very helpful)

3. Check to see if any reviews are out that I care about.

4. Click the all forums link. Go to interiors first see if any new HT's have been built or updated.

Go to displays see if any good projector threads are up.
Go to video games thread.
Go to Online gaming schedules.
Go to after hours.
Done.

Then check back do it all over, with maybe a couple variations in the forums I'll check.

my first 90 minutes online consists of

-Yahoo mail .... I need to check for any new spam
-DVD review .... for a quick scan of new releases
-The Digital Bits ..... " "
-Home Theater Forum ...... I start in After Hours, then computers and HTPC area, hardware for sale, TV area, display devices, speakers, tweaking, and back to After hours
-Red flag deals .... great site for Canadian deals
-AVS forums for a few minutes

Then some random porn sites:) and gaming sites.

That fill a couple of hours

OH Mondays include my stop at BestBuySux.org for an update.

This is easy for me.

Music area is always first. Followed by Speakers and Subs, then Receivers/amps/processors.

If I have the time I go to After Hours.

Every now and again I will go to both DVD and Video Game Software, as well as Coupons and Bargains.

I hardly ever hit Movies. I am probably the exception rather than the rule as to what areas of the site I hit. Even though I have no need to upgrade any of my audio gear, I hit the two main audio gear forums every day for some reason.

I will be in the market for a new TV or projector in the next 12 months, yet I NEVER visit the TV/Projectors forum...go figure.

I can't read this with out a tabbed browser like firefox or mozilla. I open DIY, Interiors, and AfterHours into their own tabs (middle click). Then I go into each and open each thread that looks interesting into it's own tab. Then I read, sometimes reply, and close the thread/tab when I am done. It works out great.

For me, it is the receivers/separates section first, then speakers, then, if I have time, perhaps the after hours lounge and places dealing with software.

Wow, everybody is so different. It's strange, you almost think everyone looks at the forum like you do. I always thought everyone checked to see if any threads they've posted in has updates first. Go figure.

Well, usually I start out in the TV on DVD section and then over to films. Next priority is the TV and HDTV programming section to check on the WWE thread, and Simpsons and South Park depending on the day. I then hit after hours to hit all the sports threads, and anything else that gets my attention. I glance at movies to see if there is anything interesting over there for me like talk on animation and so on, and I do go to the SW thread.

Then when I'm feeling adventurous I'll take a quick peak in at the polls area, and if its a sunday I'll check out coupons and bargons.

I usually start by looking in the "Movies" section. I like to check out the "Star Wars" thread, although I've never posted in it.

That's the only thing that I always check, once a day.

Usually I'll visit a couple other times during the day by looking at the "30 most recent posts" to see if there is anything interesting or that I can help somebody with (that's where I found this thread).

Before I read HTF, I do the following:

1) Check Yahoo Mail to see if I got anything.
2) Check ESPN and CNN to check out the latest in the world.
3) Check Ebert and Roeper's pages at the Suntimes.
4) Check AICN and Dark Horizons.
5) Check DVDAnswers, DVDFile, TheDigitalBits, and DVDVerdict for the lastest in DVD.
6) Check James Berardinelli's site for new reviews and commentaries
7) Finally, I come to HTF because I only spend a few minutes at the other sites and I know I'm going to be here for a while.
8) I'll check out Movies, then DVD (both films and TV), then Video Games (both Hardware and Software), and then After Hours. Occasionaly I'll torture myself by looking in the DVD's for sale area. :)
9) Go to Fark to see the latest in crazy news. Especially the boobies. :)
10) Look at a few porn sites. :)

Depending on the time of day I get on, I'll also check the IGN channels for the latest.

Peace out!

  1. Head straight to the After Hours Lounge
  2. Determine which thread is the most inane
  3. Post smart a** comment[/list=1]
