How do these banana plugs work?

    The one's that I have right now have the hole in the side of the shaft and the piercing point. i don't really feel good about the connection, so I'm going to get some better plugs.
    How does the wire actually attach to these?

    You connect the banana plugs to the speaker wire by unscrewing the bottom half of the banana plug and threading the speaker wire through the bottom half. Then you fan out the speaker wire strands and screw the top half of the plug so that it clamps down on speaker wire. If you have speaker wires with solid conductors these bananas won't work.

    I believe that this is the same banana plug that Home Depot sells under the RCA name for $5.99 a pair. They work well.
