    This is in Win2k, every time I open an Office document, that stupid icon appears in my system tray. It is "EN" and it appears when I open say Excel. The only way for me to get rid of it is to open the settings, ADD the "Speech-voice recognition" and then REMOVE it. How do I permanently get rid of that thing?

    It is NOT listed in my

    Control Panel->Text Services

    OK, I tracked down what the hell was loading every time I started an MS product (figures!!) and the way to get rid of it (officially and unofficially):

    http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;282599

    Is the official way to get rid of it, but since in W2k, I need the install CD of Office XP, which I don't have (network) and my company has NO tech support (well, we have CSC but they suck bigtime) I just renamted CTFMON.EXE in the Windows directory to CTFMON_NORUN.EXE and all is well again.
