I've got a 53" Panasonic HD widescreen. Love it, dvd rock on it. I'm wondering how I can figure out what type of HD content I can get. OTA, Cable, etc...

OTA you're probably out of luck, call your cable company, but I'm pretty sure that dish is going to be your only option

Be aware, when calling your cable company, that they may very well think that you are asking about "digital cable", which has nothing to do with HDTV. Very few customer service representatives at the various cable companies know anything about HDTV.

This link, will give you all of the stations currently telecasting digital signals. There is one station in Fargo, KFME telecasting in digital and another in Bismarck, KXMB. I did not notice any others. To be honest, I was surprised that there were two.
The DSS services have limited HD. They both have HBOHD and Showtime HD. Dish has Discovery HD and DirectTV has HDNet. It is my understanding that one or the other might provide CBS HD, so long as you don’t have a local outlet in your area. But as this does not apply to me, I really can’t confirm that.
As for cable, you will just have to check, and, as others have written, be sure to verify any information you are given by cable representatives. Many are not sure of the distinction.

I emailed my local NBC and ABC stations and asked them when they'd be switching over, here's what I got back:

    NBC:

    Hi Leif,
Hopefully we will broadcast within a year. There is some rather large red
tape to go through at this time. We are petitioning the FCC to go to another
channel, right now they have us on 58.
Once we get the ok to move, then things can start moving along.
    Thanks,

    ABC:

At this point WDAY has not received their DTV license from the FCC. We are
working on the technical aspect but until a license is issued it is
    difficult to say.

Looks like I'll be holding off on buying a tuner for awhile. Oh well.
