Like many of the old film companies Paramount had it's up and downs financially over the years. At one point, it was forced to sell the rights to many of it's pre-1950 films but kept the rights to what it considered some of their most prestigous films. I know that one of those film rights kept was "Sorry Wrong Number" but for some strange reason, they sold "The Lost Weekend" which won AA for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director, and Best Screenplay. So go figure??????????????
