I was testing my new 5.1 speaker system last night and when I turned up the volume with the rear channels on the receiver would shut down. At low volumes it would work fine but when it was turned up it would shut down. I am using Galaxy Audio 16 Ohm 5" stage monitor replacement speakers in the rear (MCM). Could they have contributed to the failure? The reciever(Sherwood)worked fine before the speaker upgrade. I think it is toast now, it won't power up for more than a few seconds (transistor?) but I would like to figure out what went wrong before frying a new one. Help

Check your speaker wire connections both at the receiver and speaker ends. If you're using bare wire there's a possibility that you've got a stray strand shorting things out. Don't assume and don't inspect. Remake all the connections and let's see if that takes care of things.
