How can I test if something is a mouse dropping?

    Hey all,

Weird question, I know. I saw a mouse 1 week ago in my apt and since then, I've been a little freaked out. I set out glue traps all around the radiator unit, which is where I saw it come out of, and go back into, and no luck. I figured it was running basically throughout the building, through the walls and just happen to peek out into my unit. Then last night I found what looked like a mouse dropping on my bed. It was a little less than an 1/8 inch long, roughly football shaped, dark and hard. Now I'm really freaking out...Is there some way I can test this sample to see if it's really mouse feces? Or anywhere I can send this to have it tested? I'm hesitant to send it to an exterminator cause I figure he'll say sure it is without really testing it.

    Thanks
    Steve

Yep, sure sounds like he/she left you a present.
If you want a 'better mouse trap', get some of the good old fashioned spring type mouse traps and put a gob of peanut butter on the spring tab, make sure its imbedded in the hook part real good. Then just wait.

The best way to determine if your mystery pellet is mouse feces is by taste. I would begin by smelling the material. Does it have a peculiar aroma? It sounds like most of the odor has already escaped from the dropping, due to the fact that you have allowed it to harden. A few seconds in the microwave may help restore some of the fresh qualities you desire. Resolve to tasting the next piece as soon as you find it. Place the pellet in the middle of your tongue, and roll it around to different areas of your mouth. Mouse droppings have a musky, slightly salty, flavor that should be easy to identify. After the test, a glass of red Kool-Aid will rinse the taste from your mouth.

The best way to seek revenge for this incident is to find the mouse that did this and poop in his bed. They hate that. It will be a lesson little Mickey will not soon forget.

Matt, yer a sick sick man. [IMG]

Lew nailed it though. Get the old fashioned spring-type traps, and load 'em with PB. They work like a charm, and are usually a quicker death for the little buggers. (I hate those glue traps...)

Could be a rat dropping. What else do you think it could be? The world's smallest uncoated M&M?

Do exterminators have scientific tests they run on stuff like that? I would think they'd just go by how it looks.

IF you have to question something by size that would come out of a roach, versus a mouse, you either have no perspective, or really, really big roaches... I think that would freak me out more!!!!!
