How big a screen would or should one get in a 9'x 17' room? Is there a formula for that sort of thing?
    Thanks[IMG]

THX recommends a 36° viewing angle.

For example, if you sat 7' away from your screen, to meet Lucas' standards, you'd need around a 60" 16:9 TV.

HERE is an online calculator that breaks it down into greater detail.

And remeber that THX recommends 36 degrees for the LAST row of seating, not the primary, so your furthest row back should have 36 degrees.

Those THX recommendations are for movie theaters, where with film's greater resolution you can have a much bigger screen. At home with mixed sources at much lower resolution you aren't going to get very good picture quality at those distances.

At 7' a 60" would look pretty bad with typical SD sources.

Anyway, people's tastes vary, the only foolproof way is to go to the store with a tape measure and see for yourself what you like, on a variety of sources. But I would start with a 16:9 set with diagonal approximately half of your viewing distance, and try bigger/smaller from there.

I was at 8' with my new 57", and it seemed too close. I moved back to about 9', and it's much more comfortable to view from that distance.

How high is your ceiling? Probably 80" * 45" with that wide of a wall...
