I've not actually seen the current Giant (1956) DVD with my own eyes but I've heard many complaints about the EE & general picture quality.

With all the great discs WB are putting out there these days, what do you think the chances are of them going back and giving this classic the proper treatment?

Who's with me? Who else wants a Giant 50th Anniversary Edition next year?

What's the point? WB are still not doing 16x9 1.66:1 transfers. As much as I love WB, they should've resolved this issue years ago.

Well, the Germans are shortly to get an eight DVD James Dean Prestige Collection in very nice tin packaging; I wouldn't mind that coming to R1 with a remastered anamorphic Giant.

Got any pictures of that tin package you can share John? [IMG]

With such gorgeous transfers of both Rebel without a Cause & East of Eden on the market, it seems a shame that Giant hasn't had a similar treatment.

I'd love to see Giant get the treatment it deserves.

Cool tin. I wonder if it'll be the same (DVD transfers/extras) as the Complete James Dean Collection that's already availible in R1 though? Anyway, thanks for the picture John [IMG]

I hope some people from WB read some of the support for this release in this thread!

Apparently the films and extra are exactly the same, the extra discs are for the documentaries James Dean: Forever Young (which is getting an R1 release) and James Dean: Sense Memories.

Warners insistance on non-anamorphic 1.66:1 transfers is the one big stain on their output. They really ought to change policy on this - putting the above set out in R1 with an anamorphic Giant would be a huge step forward.

The german James Dean Collection unfortunately contains the old Giant DVD which is non-anamorphic.

I found it odd that WB never re-did this title for the Complete James Dean Collection this year, maybe they are waiting for the 50th anniversary? Fingers crossed.
