Hey all...I got a friend who is moving to Houston from Canada to teach. She is really worried about the school system. Can anyone tell me some positive things? I know its teaching and all, but does anyone know any teachers in the Houston area that can give me some nice things to tell her so she won't be so worried?

What part of Houston will she be teaching in? I had a cousin who taught in the Cy-Fair district a few years ago, and she loved it. I know someone who teaches in south Houston, and he can tell some horror stories.

She doesn't know yet. Supposedly she is going to be getting a list of possible jobs tomorrow and she can pick which one she wants. If I can get that list I'll post it here.

I have several friends who are teachers. They all live in and around Houston, but none actually works for HISD. I'm not sure what that says about Houston school district.
There are several excellent school districts around Houston, my friends work for the following: Clear Lake, Aldine and Pearland school districts. They are quie happy with their choices and, If I remember correctly, they all passed on HISD jobs. There is a teaching shortage in the area, so some districts may offer more incentives to get new teachers.
