The Swifter things work pretty good but they seem to leave some kind of residue behind....don't know if it's like a static thing or something from the rag itself...the things it removes dust from seem to get dusty faster than normal. Of course, that could be the evil genius behind the product so that you have to keep buying more :D

Keep a portable vacuum handy. Also, those dry wipes for floor are perfect for furniture and electronic equipments. It just attracts to it as you wipe.

My family is very much annoyed by dusty furnitures, ect., we're very sensitive to them. Under very dusty environment, my arms itch. Upon close inspection, most dust are from clothing. Just take some and look under a microscope. That's why your bedroom is "dusty as HELL" Nickso. Everytime you change and move your blankets around at night, you're creating them.

careful there, if your duct work is already marginal these can drop your head pressure quite a bit when cooling, won't matter for heating but can cause cooling problems. A good pleated filter is usually OK.

If you really want to go at it have something like a honeywell electronic air cleaner installed. Just keep up on the washing.

If the 3M Ultra Allergen isn't a "good" pleated filter, then which one is? They have literally 2-3x the surface area of the similarly sized lesser filters.
I used these for years in my FL home- no issues. In fact, my compressor runtime was a wee bit lower with these, over the $3 Home Depot pleated deal.
