    hi all -

i guess my sister was trying to replace some of her older wall outlets with the newer modern (square shaped) ones. anyway, i guess one of the plugs was on a switched outlet.

when she replaced the plug, the switch stopped working. according to her, both outlets have power...just not the switched capability.

i asked her if there was a red wire - which typically is connected to a switch (isn't it?) - she said no.

i haven't been over to her house yet to investigate, but i just thought i'd ask if anyone had any ideas?

    thx,

    ted

thx todd. i think i know what type of plug you're talking about.

i still don't get how can *both* outlets (top and bottom) can have power, regardless of the switch's position?

where is the wire leading from the switch to the outlet?

If you don't break the connection, and have both the switch and hot connections (both blacks) connected, the switching is negated, since power is always connected.

Chances are she just reconnected it the way the old plug was, but didn't break that connection.
