Assuming I get a copy, I'll see what it looks like scaled on my Panasonic RP91. I really dislike it when a show that was captured in high definition is not enhanced for 16x9 televisions for the DVD release, but sometimes the PQ can squeak by.

I suspect that leaving it 4x3 letterbox was an attempt to squeeze more programs on to the disc.

I read somewhere that the space savings is derived from the constant black bands at the top and bottom of the frame. If that area had actual, moving picture in it, it would not compress down as well.

Anyone who does compression for a living, please chime in...

They have three double-sided DVDs and only 22 episodes - there's no reason why there should be any space problems.

Four episodes per side is pretty much the standard.

If this turns out to be true, there is no excuse. This is 2005. To release a show non-anamorphic that was broadcast HD is just asinine.

So which studio will be the first one to combine it all - non-anamorphic widescreen, sped-up, syndicated episodes in the wrong order with replaced music?

The way things are going, a set like that is just around the corner.

The PQ is just fine blown up. Only some episodes show compression artifacts in opening credits.

Bloody fantastic show - best of 05 so far.

Universal just sucks for continuing to use double sided discs.
