It is definitely not the "rainbow effect" :)

It sounds like either bad/inferior cables
or
The video switcher in your receiver is either malfunctioning or is introducing interference into the signal that is being picked up in your projector.

To isolate the problem, I'd try the following:
1. Change the cables (preferably to a quality cable ... nothing fancy, just better than the cheap RCAs that normally come with the equipment.

2. Try running the cable from your projector directly to your DVD player.

Hope this helps.

My guess is Macrovision on the DVD disc.

Does the same thing happen when you put in a DVD that doesn't have Macrovision like Avia? If not, then it is likely Macrovision messing with your switcher's video circuits.

Sorry guys, i failed to mention one other piece of info. I have a Component coupler as my projector has a proprietary cable that is only 6' long. It has component male out. I think the coupler is crappy beacause I see no issues when connected directly to DVD or cable box. Anyone know of a high quality coupler or any other solution to make the connection between the projector cable and another 25' component cable I have running to my equipment? I have narrowed my issue to a crappy coupler.
