I have plenty of other movies to occupy my time between now and September 10th. It just doesn't make any financial sense to me to spend $24.99 on a 4K digital when I already have the 4K/UHD on preorder that comes with a free 4K digital code.
Me too. But I just had to buy this one now. My wife won’t go to a three hour film in a theater but at home on the couch with a glass of wine…..? Sold. 🤪

My days of spending more than $9.99 on a movie digital are long gone. I want to support Costner, but not at $24.99 or $19.99. I can wait on my September 10th 4K/UHD preorder.
In my mind, it is important to support Costner's project sooner rather than later, cost be darned. If the digital release doesn't bring in sufficient cash, I fear we may not get Chapter 4 or maybe not even Chapter 3.

#1 for a purchase, no less (no rental). I paid less than $10 to see it in the theater and now I own it for $25. I feel downright lucky.

Watching it right now on my 77”OLED with the wife and she’s loving it. I’m enjoying it even more than I did in the theater.

"I've faced life with people being dismissive of me," Costner said. "But they can't be dismissive of Horizon, because now it's out of their hands. And they might point to the finish line—well, this is what it did at the box office—but I know that this movie is going to play for the next 50 years.

...

"There's a moment in time where you want [your children] to see this movie," he said. "To understand that this is what their [ancestors] went through. It's not just a western, it's a history of migration and what they had to do to survive. And I'm really proud of it."

"I don't really fall out of love with something I feel strongly about," Costner explained. "Until somebody convinces me otherwise it needs to go in another direction, that doesn’t happen."
...

He conceded that, here and there, he's "been able to be talked off of my position before." But in this case, he added, "I feel like my job is to bring something original to people. And it's really hard to make a good western."

Some films do come off better on your home screen. I saw Horizon first afternoon show and gave it 4 out of 5 on my Radio Show. Especially for something original and the fact that Costner just from watching the film believed in what he was making. The film was not only a personal one but a real labor of love. Of the James Bond series Live And Let Die, although I've seen it too many times to count on the big screen, comes off better watching it on my home screen and always has.

Personally, and this is just one man's opinion, but I feel like this IS a film shot for and made to be seen on a big screen in a cinema. The only reason, in my opinion, that people keep mentioning it for TV is how long it is, how he broke it up (meaning chapter 1 really does not have an ending and previews chapter 2), and the fact that Costner is now known for doing the TV series Yellowstone. Really though, this is a big screen event film, or series of films. I'd probably have given each chapter an ending, so they could stand alone, but I understand his intent is it is one film that just happens to run 12 hours long.

I finally got around to watching this. All in all I would say it lived up to the hype. I was definitely captivated by the various story lines and thought the cinematography was gorgeous. I’m a little confused by the montage at the end. Was that supposed to be scenes from the next installment, or was it just a montage of scenes shot to close out this film?

In that case they would have been better off to have left off the coming attractions plug. I see now, unlike in Back to the Future Part II where they crassly had a “coming summer 1990” trailer before the credit roll, they thought it would be a little less crass to not identify the montage as a preview. But it really would have been much better to just fade out with a “to be continued” tag and left it at that.

It didn't bother me as long as the next installment is released.

What's the latest word on this?

We are going to watch this movie in the upcoming weeks as it's streaming on (I think) Apple TV+

I heard they pulled the next installments from theatrical

Were there still plans to release the rest of the films to streaming?

Chapter 2 is finished and will most likely be released theatrically soon. Parts 3&4 are yet to be made and are uncertain.
