Hooking up my receiver(VSX-D458)to tv for surround soudn (1 Viewer)

Hello there people; this is my first post. I am going nuts here. I had my receiver hooked up a while back there to my tv and it sounded pretty decent. I have tried connecting my tv to my receiver via the back audio outputs(assuming they are outputs), however, I can only get my front speakers working or my center speaker working at once. When I do a sound test, all my speakers are audable. I have my front speakers hooked up to my A channel, and my centre speaker hooked up along with my 2 bookshelf speakers. I am hoping it is just something very simple(most likely). Could someone please shed some light on my situation here? I wont be far... I will most likely be still fiddling with it.

Are you saying that your front speakers and your center speaker don't work at the same time? I am having some difficulty understanding the question.
