I connect the s-video from the DVD player to where i think is the right place on the reciever and i get no signal. I am running the optical cable for the audio and it works. Do you have to have a 6-channel DVD player to hook it up this way? The DVD player works with the s-video when you hook it up directly to the tv.

Hi Brian.

With most receivers, if you run SVideo to the receiver, you must also run SVideo FROM the receiver to the TV. The receiver will not convert. My guess is you only have a COMPOSITE video cable running from the receiver output to the TV.

It only makes sense to run video through the receiver if you have 2 or more SVideo sources.

If the old family VCR is the only composite source, Radio Shack sells a $20 "Composite to SVideo" adaptor that makes the VCR look like a SVideo source. (The quality is not great, but...who cares?)

Hope this helps.
