    Hi,

I really need help hooking up my set-up, any help would be great!

    I have the following:

-50" Plasma Pioneer purevision (has two hdmi, and two component)
-HDTV comcast box (has 1 component, and no hdmi)
-Samsung HDMI dvd multi-format recorder (has 1 hdmi and 1 component)
the dvd recorder has a IR cable to get the cable box's channels, but I don't know how to do it.

I have the following cables available:

    1 hdmi
1 component, which I need from the Comcast box to the tv in order to get the HD channels
    3 red/white/yellow
    3 av cables
    1 IR cable

I want it set up so i can record tv programs with my dvd recorder, and still be able to watch dvd's with the upconversion hdmi. Is that all possible? Do I need any other cables? Do I need to run the cable line to comcast box, then how do i record tv programs? I feel really dumb! I need like every step told or I get confused. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Thanks for your help I really appreciate it!

    -Brad

Hi Brad - If you have a receiver, connect your system as follows:

    1. Cable Box -> DVD Recorder, Component
    2. Cable Box -> Receiver, Digital Coax or Optical Audio
    3. DVD Recorder -> TV, HDMI
    4. DVD Recorder -> Receiver, Digital Coax or Optical Audio

If you are using the TV speakers, connect your system as:

    1. Cable Box -> DVD Recorder, Component
    2. Cable Box -> TV, RCA Audio (red/white)
    3. DVD Recorder -> TV, HDMI
    4. DVD Recorder -> TV, RCA Audio (red/white)

I'd also recommend purchasing a Universal Remote, such as a Logitech Harmony 880.

    Enjoy your new system!
