Heads up to anyone downloading and installing the PodBean app - make sure you go into settings to turn off auto downloading of "recommended" podcasts and location of where downloads are stored. My phone filled up very fast with political podcasts. The app itself is also quite large to begin with, so I hope Brian and Sam can get this up on the previous podcast services soon.

Yeah, I'm sorry we've rolled out the new feed slowly. That's on me. I've been going through some personal challenges that have unfortunately limited my attention to this.

No problem - definitely understand (going through some challenges right now myself). I was just wondering what was suddenly eating up all the storage on my phone.

Listened today amidst ... well, a busy and eventful Jan 20 in many regards both personal and beyond.

Anywho...

I like the podcast having guests. The conversational style is good.

I like the game “Guess if the other Host likes a show”

@Brian Dobbs speaks utter truth that opinion on high frame rate is solely about what you’re used to! I dislike it. But, I’ve got a lifetime teaching me movies are 24 FPS and TV is 30 to 60 FPS. As @Sam Posten says, I expect video games are teaching a younger generation that HFR is the way and 24FPS is old and busted.

@Todd Erwin comments about needing new cinematic language to take advantage of HFR was interesting, something I hadn’t heard before.

I have a technical request for consideration: Chapter markers in the podcast. I’m seeing more podcasts do this, and I really like it. But I’ve heard it’s extra work to do, so I understand if you can’t do this, esp. in your effort to streamline and have quick turnaround on your podcasts. :)

I think that was me!

I think we all have expectations of what a “movie” looks like and a large part of the cinematic language we’re used to with conventional movies was born in reaction to how film at 24fps behaves. If they’re going to change everything about how a movie can look visually with HFR, why use all of that new technology just to copy an existing style? To me that sounds like the equivalent of using a color printer only in black and white. There’s nothing wrong with black and white but why bother with new gear if you’re just trying to make it look like the old?

Sorry if I misattributed! :). (I thought it was Todd discussing going to the NYC theater to see the full-blown Hobbit. But I was listening the latter half of the podcast while exercising, so I totally could have lost track of who was making the comments.)

Regarding 8k: Brian IIRC was asking why 8k? As answered there‘s definitely a “marketing bullet point” aspect. But I also suspect that design and manufacturing is setup to make pixels a certain size. And you just get 8k pixel counts for “free” when you use those size pixels for 80”+ size displays.

Also, if industry stuck with 4K for 80” sets, the pixels could start getting visibly bigger, such that the set would not look good on showrooms where people are demo’ing from unrealistic close proximity.

I’ve not found the real numbers and done the math, so that’s just an informed guess. :)

Hadn't considered that with 8K but that makes total sense.

Episode 13 with special guest @JohnRice is in the can and edited. I figured out why we weren't getting true stereo separation too so this one is really in stereo this time too! Should be posted tomorrow!

Theme? All about using Amps and Separates, something I know very little about and got a good education on tonight!

Also thanks to my bud TODD Rice (No relation!) for providing us some new sound clips to throw in the mix =)
