I am very excited about putting together my first system and I am looking for some advice. Ground Rules:

What I have:
Budget = $1700
Room = 12 X 15 X 8, hardwood floors.
TV = Sony KF-42WE610 42" Grand Wega LCD rear projection.
DVD = Samsung DVD-HD931

What I need:
Receiver - I was looking at Marantz SR5300 for $399
Speaker System - I was looking at CSW MC300.5 package buying individually from ebay for approximately $1200.

Also have been looking at the Axion epic grand master.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Scott!

I would throw in a vote for the ELT bundle package that www.av123.com is selling for $1250.00. The bundle pack includes the 6 speaker ELT package as well as a Denon 1804 receiver. This would leave you about $400.00 to either upgrade the subwoofer or the receiver. I have heard this package and IMO it is one of the best that you will find for under 2K. I can tell ya that my setup cost ~$1300-$1500 depending on if you want to count certain cables.

I really enjoy it.

What about a Paradigm package of some sort? You should be able to do a Monitor series setup for that money.

Do you need to throw in some $ for a throw rug for the hardwood? This is to minimize sound reflection.

I'd try & hit some local dealers to check out various speaker options. That was the best advice I got when I was shopping & I ended up with some B&W's that I love. Nothing can beat hearing things for yourself.

Both Bob and Curtis have made excellent suggestions. My preference is for the ELT system—and I’d upgrade the sub from the ELT model to the UFW-10 (if you wish to stay in the Rocket family).

ELT/Denon combo is an excellent one. My vote would be for the nOrh 4.0 video package ($850 delivered though look are love 'em or hate 'em), HSU VTF-2 (should be able to find for $450 delivered), and the Marantz receiver.
