Nothing is disconnected. SACD and DVD-audio (Dolby 5.1) work fine from the DVD player. All 5.1 speakers function in SACD, DVD-audio and cable tv modes. When I play a dvd movie, we get no spoken words, just the background music. Trying to view Capote; playing the 2 other stereo audio tracks unfortunately gives me actor and director commentaries. I switched out the movie for another, but it's mute also. No clues provided in the troubleshooting FAQs for the dvd player or receiver, Pioneer Elite DV-45A and VSX-45TX, respectively. I also noticed that a DVD-audio of the Eagles that should play in DTS does not automatically switch to that format. Any ideas?

Can you run a test from your receiver to send out individiual signals to your speakers? If not, see if you have any THX-certified DVDs and run the audio test and see if anything is sent out to the center channel.
