http://drive.to/ish It's incredibly scary what some people do on public roads...
    But what a rush!
"Top secret 200mph+ Skyline" made me almost snort coffee out of my nose. The word I think I was looking for was "FUCK!"
"2 very very quick Nissan Skylines racing" is also a bit of an eye opener.

I have a copy of the Top Secret Skyline vid that goes slightly longer than the one on this site. It shows the top speed the car hit using the memory recall of the computer...
    would you believe 328kph![IMG]
Thats about 205mph if i'm not mistaken.

That R32 Skyline interior shot is pretty cool. You can see him fighting the car in 1st and 2nd. No traction! That thing would have whipped right around if not AWD.

Plus, you can hear the wastegate pop hard at the end.

You can hear him feathering the throttle in 1st just to keep traction. It also looks as though the track is a bit wet, which certainly wouldn't help.

That would be a blow off valve you can hear at the end, not the wastegate.

It sure looks like a hell of a ride though.

I don't get those cars. They all sound and look about as mean as a Geo Metro. Sure they can go fast, but is that all there is?

Ohh and one thing I always wanted to ask an owner of 'those' type of cars: why do they always put on those awful exhausts that resonate the most annoying notes. Is it just a failed attempt to sound like a big block or do they actually like the sound?

I have no idea what the people who put those huge exhausts ont heir cars think if the sound, but I really doubt they want it to sound like a "big block".

As a Japanese performance car lover, especially Rotaries, I love the sound they make, beats a big block anyday. This is of course my opinion, and doesn't mean big blocks are bad (well actually... uh never mind[IMG]). You cant beat the rush and sound when a car like these comes on boost.

I think liking a certian sound is based on experience. Different people will associate different sounds with high performance. For Mike Lenthol that sound is a "big block", for me (as someone who grew up with F1) I associate high rpms with high performance and do not care for the sound of a push-rod engine etc.

There is no substitue for a V8 with loads of Torque!

The type that requires a chain to hold the engine down.

One that raises the front end and gives it a little twist.

Scares the &^&*% out of you.

For some of us, it's not just about speed.

Growing up in the muscle car era was fun but one experience still sticks with me. In 78' I went to Watkins Glen to watch the US GP.

The world champ was Andretti in a Lotus w/ford cosworth. Sound OK but the real audible treats were:

    Ferrari - V12

    Leiger - V12 (mantra?)

    Renault - Turbo V6

    Alpha - V12

Nothing in my 40+ years compares with the sound from the Leiger. Nothing.

The Renaults were great. I remember positioning myself at a hairpin to watch them enter, apply power causing the turbo to kick in, flame up (loud pop), then roar up the hill. Fun stuff.

For me, I like performance, period, and I can enjoy it in all forms.
For instance, I own an old Z28, with a very strong 5.7L motor I built myself. I retrofitted a 6 speed manual into it. Rowing through the gears (at 6000 rpm) on a back road is simply musical. The car handles surprisingly well, thanks to a few good suspension and tire modifications.
Additionally, I own an Acura TL-S (the family truckster[IMG]). Its 260hp, 3.2L V6 pulls strong to 7000rpm. The sound of the dual-stage intake opening at 3800rpm, bringing in a throatier sound, followed by the VTEC actuating at 4800, is also musical.
That Skyline is insane. I don't care for the styling, but there's something to be said for an engine that can handle upwards of 1000hp, 30lbs of boost, and an AWD system that can put more of that torque to the pavement than either of my cars. Very impressive engineering feat by Nissan. And very impressive mods by the owners.

From a safe distance I meant of course [IMG]
But those things are scary. I once found this 'farm' channel on the dish and
they had tractors racing. Some were using multiple helicopter turbine engines
rated at 2000+ HP each. Somebody should take out that sissy rotary out of a RX7
and put in a turbine [IMG]
What is that 3" mandrel bent exhaust?
