I never really paid any attention to this message at the top of the forum:
I think Scott speaks for all 27,582 of us.
Scott, you took the words right out of my mouth.
I post and not all of it is always useful, but some people can rack up a 1000 posts in under three months. Oh... and screw off.
Geez that is ALOT of poeple, has to be one of the largest forums around. BTW, piss off!
What's even more amazing is that there are 27,583 differing opinions on this board and it remains so calm and civilized. Sure, there are some flare-ups now and again, but they get dealt with quickly and professionally. My hats off to all the Administrators, who do damn fine work.
And since I don't like screwing off...I think I'll just go Flake Off.
Check this out...
As of this writing, there are 27,593 registered members. Of these, 7193 (26.1%) have 0 posts!!! Another 7898 (28.6%) have between 1 and 5 posts.
So a new member can hang out in the Polls area for a day or two, participate in a few tourneys, and jump right into the top half.
Only 3145 (11.4%) of the membership would fall into what I would arbitrarily classify as the "active" category (100 or more posts).
I don't know what it is about the late hours that inspires me to spend time compiling these useless stats. :b
OK, you can all tell me to sod off now!
I think a lot of folks just lurk, with or without accounts. Over at the AVS I'm a lurker. I read the the HD forum every few days and pick up useful information. I only have 3 or 4 posts though. But I still actively visit it. Heck, at least 1/2 my posts on the HTF are in Afters Hours. But I read through most of the other forums on a daily basis.
I'm sure a lot lurk, I'm sure even more join, ask their question on setup or whatever, and leave.
11 down, 27,572 to go.
Wow. Thanks to this thread, the HTF will soon turn into a community of people devoted to telling each other to "screw off".
Maybe there's a lot of people who just don't have anything new to contribute to any of the discussions. I'd rather see someone with 0 posts than a post and 20000 replies of just "I agree" or "me too".
Right on Chris....LOL
I tend to lurk like crazy and only reply when the mood hits me.... like now.
I lurk a lot, several times a day, normally and have been a member so long I can not actually remember when I first found this place. I never post, however. Normally I do not have anything constructive to say and see no real need to post just to get my post count up.
I keep telling myself I am going to start posting more... just never seam to do it
Do peoples accounts ever get suspended through non-use, though? When I first arrived I felt the forum was pretty 'straight'. Lots of info and I liked that, but when you first get here it seems like the Mods are the pickiest 'rules lawyers' you ever met, this side of a Role Master campaign. However, I am happy now to not be able to discuss certain topics - that's why I'm on other forums, after all. I'd guess a large number of those '0' posters might be people who joined and then didn't like it. Bear in mind that if a thread was deleted then post count goes down, so if they joined ages ago... I'd guess at least 10% of the members listed there don't even come here anymore... Damn good forum, though.
Whats really amazing is 27,583 is roughly the population of my home town.
Jack - as a member who joined in Jan/Feb '98 who is still well under 1,000 posts I may be able to answer that! For me it is my evil, sometimes all encompassing "Life outside the HTF" that can cause long spells in between posts. Whether it is the job, the family, the house, etc., I have had long periods of inactivity. Its not that I'm not interested, its simply a lack of time.
Also, early on, I was more of a lurker than a regular poster. Every once in a while I would post a question or make a snide comment regarding DIVX (who didn't?!) but I pretty much was visited the HTF in an attempt to absorb vast quantities of HT related info. It worked, I'm completely hooked!
However, I have been attempting to make up for lost time by posting much more frequently as of late
Like Bill, I'm more of a lurker at the AVS and the HTSpot forum. Less than 50 posts combined.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot...
Screw off Paul!!!
They're people like me. We lurk a lot, soak up the info, then have a splurge of posts for a time. I've added some 25% today!
