I own a Pioneer KRP-600M plasma, professionally ISF calibrated, which I bought new in 2009, but I'm holding off in buying a new 4K UHTV until next year when the new ATSC tuners are implemented and available with the 2018 models. What say you guys about that? Thanks!

You actually don't have anything to worry about as the best ATSC full function/feature capable set-top-boxes will be available for all current UHD TVs so all UHD TV owners and perspective buyers have nothing to worry about as you UHD TV is ok for the further OTA, OTT and IP transmission standards that will be soon available from ATSC 3.0.

With that said and not that we have all current UHD TV owners and perspective UHD TV buyers minds at ease here's a new video just posted today by SMPTE on Youtube.

SMPTE Hollywood Section: Everything You Wanted to Know About ATSC 3.0, presented by Richard Chernock.

From the Youtube discription:

The September meeting of the SMPTE Hollywood Section brought members and guests an exclusive evening with Dr. Richard Chernock. He presented the new features and technologies in the new ATSC 3.0 digital broadcast standard and provided his unique insights into novel applications enabled by ATSC 3.0.

Chernock is the chair of the Advanced Technology Systems Committee (ATSC) Technology Group 3 (TG3). He discussed the group’s progress toward finalizing ATSC 3.0 and how the new standard will differ from ATSC 1.0, which currently governs most digital broadcasts.

ATSC 3.0 features will include the latest video and audio encoding technologies to facilitate the delivery of ultra-high-definition television (UHDTV), which includes 4K resolution, high dynamic range (HDR), and wider color gamut (WCG), as well as immersive sound and personalized audio. ATSC 3.0 will also enable mobile delivery, hybrid delivery over the internet, interactive apps, audience viewing data, and advanced emergency alerts.

Just for clarification. ATSC 3.0 is about the OTA transport protocol and now they added IP. It's not an audio or TV standard.

My Vizio M70-D3 didn't even come with a built-in TV tuner, which is no big deal to me as I have not used a built-in tuner for many years. Right now we have Comcast Xfinity service, and if I ever cut the cord I can always add the latest OTA set top box if I need one (may not even need it if I went streaming only). As others have said above, there is really no reason to wait just because of this new standard.

TV has been crap for the past 20 years anyways (presentation-wise, not quality of shows which can be better seen elsewhere.) I'll buy an ATSC 3.0 tuner if it's affordable, but won't be in a big hurry. Just remembering how nice it was the few months after the analog stations went off when I wasn't getting any TV in my home at all!
